Dear friends, thank you very very much for your sympathy towards Cliff's passing away. I found this page only recently, but better late than never.

Dear Chadderton Family,

My sincere sympathies at this very sad time. Cliff was a remarkable man, with such a big heart and a remarkable legacy to have left behind with his dedication to The War Amps.

My mother's comments(Andrea Seim Blackburn Thompson)left early on in the guest book echo much of the sentiment I also share.

My grandfather (George G Blackburn) and Cliff's friendship was clearly a dear one to them both, and to our whole family as well.

Their memories were many, and cherished, from wartime all the way to the years nearing my grandfather's passing.

Cliff was one of my grandfather's dearest supporters at a time his books were still being written (over a decade of researching and writing involved in that trilogy The Guns of Normandy; The Guns of Victory and Where The Hell Are The Guns?) and I know Cliff's support and encouragement meant to world to my grandfather.

He was such a kind, gracious, warm man, whom I know you will miss dearly, as will all who knew him.

May his dear, wonderful soul rest in peace.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Cliff's passing. He was an exceptional man who helped so many people. I had the privilege of working with him when the Champ Program was formed and am forever indebted to him for helping me find a new life after losing my arm and leg. My heartfelt condolences to Brian and all of Mr. Chadderton's family.

Dear Nina, Bill, Brian, and all the family, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. On behalf of the whole Blackburn family, please accept our heartfelt condolences.

I learned of Cliff's passing from my brother, Ron, who phoned to let me know. Ron was "Uncle" Cliff's godson

After the War, our families shared good times together, and my first recollection of "Uncle Cliff" was in a parade after the war, when my Dad (George Blackburn) introduced my mother and me to him; he was sitting in a wagon, behind a mule, with the reins in his hands -- happy, friendly, and outgoing -- he always had a huge smile for us all.

In the summer, he would travel down the Rideau River in his beautiful motorboat, from his cottage on the Rideau River to our cottage, and pick us up to take us out for a nice ride in his boat -- to the total delight of us kids (myself and my brothers, Mark and Ron!)

In the Beatles era, my brother, Mark, and Cliff's son, Brian, both played rhythm guitar, and sang, in a band called, "The Suspects".

Many is the time Cliff would come to our home and Dad and he would share the most incredible war-time stories. They kept my mother, my brothers, and me spell-bound.

Later, both men would write of their war time memories (Dad with his "The Guns of Normandy", "The Guns of Victory" and "Where the Hell are the Guns?" and Cliff, with his incredibly long list of productions, while he was directing the operations of the War Amps.

The Blackburn family felt very close to the Chaddertons, and those of us Blackburns who still remain alive will always treasure our memories of this wonderful man, Cliff Chadderton, who dedicated his life for the benefit of so many.

He has touched the lives of literally thousands of Canadians.

We will forever hold his memory dear.

To all the Chadderton family, please accept our deepest sympathy, and know that we stand beside you all in spirit, and feel the sad loss of this incredible man very deeply, indeed.

As a daughter of a war amputee I was raised to look up to Mr. C. especially regarding the CHAMP program. When my dad became senile in 1986 and we couldn't get the proper care for him, I called Mr. C's office and it didn't take long that my dad started receiving the entitled care. Again from the bottom of my heart I say THANK YOU. My deepest sympathy to the family.
December-06-13
My heartfelt condolences to the family. I remember Mr. C fondly from my time at The Waramps as the best story-teller around, and one memorable Halloween as "Captain Canada"! He will be warmly remembered by all those whose lives he touched.

I always enjoyed seeing Mr. Chadderton on TV, whether it was in interviews on the news, or in documentaries, or advertisements for the War Amps. He always struck me as a man of great integrity. Mr. Chadderton managed to convey a degree of transparency, honesty, and seriousness that made me feel that it was a shame he did not run for Prime Minister. We will miss you Mr. Chadderton!

My name is Gail Young. "Uncle" Cliff as I and my brother and sister called him is remembered fondly. He was a good friend and bos of my Dad Marvin Young many years ago when they worked for the Army Benevolent Fund when was established after WW11 to help struggling surviving familes of War vets who may have died or had been injured in the war. The Army Benevolent Fund was run out of Department of Veterans Affairs. He was also my brother's Mark godfather. My brother and I want to convey our deepest sympathy to the family. I lived with the family for a few months back in 1968. My dad was a close friend and looked forward to his visits to our home in Halifax when he came there on business.I have a lot of cherished memories. He was a giving man who loved his family and cherished his friends. He was a "Champ" to a lot of children. I lsot touch with "Uncle" a few years ago but I guess that was when he was ill. I used to keep in touch with him at the War Amps office when I was working for the CRA abd would contact him when I was on business in Ottawa. I am retired now and live in Toronto area. I moved from Halifax in 1971 on a transfer relocation for my job. I was going to come to Ottawa for the funeral but this is to be a private service. I was going to be there to represent my father ,brother and myself. Would it be possible that someone from the family could email me the memorial service? My email address is gyoung1659@rogers.com. Thank you. "Prayin for Friends to comfort you,Faith to uphold you and Loving memories to carry you through." "Gone from the night but not from our hearts."

Cliff was my "leading man" back in the day when we appeared on W5 together back in 1985! Cliff was always a pillar of strength and support to me and all of the CHAMP's. Our loss is great but the honour of knowing Cliff was and is so much greater. Sincere condolences to his wife and his family and to all of us in his War Amps family...

Although I did not know Mr. Chadderton personally, I recognized his face immediately when I saw his picture in this morning's paper. He was a dedicated individual and worked hard to instill awareness for amputees and veterans. I thank him from the bottom of my heart for all his dedicated work. (signed a daughter of WWII veteran)
