Vlad and family,
Please accept our prayers of strength in this time of loss.
We respect your wish for private family service. Know that we are there in our thoughts. We have experienced the loss of loved ones. It is not easy, but trust that time will heal.

My earliest vivid memories of Irene date from the time both of us were grad students at Vic university in Wellington, NZ. She was finishing a PhD, I was fresh out of my BSc. There were 5 of us on a road-trip to Otago for a conference, during which Irene taught me a very valuable life-lesson, and it had nothing to do with Math - that humour is the only way to sensible way of getting through a bout of food-poisoning. I vaguely knew Irene prior to that, but that is certainly the memory of Irene that is going to stick with me from those early days.
Many years later, immigration brought me to Québec, and Irene and Vladimir to Ottawa. It was so nice to see you both again after all this time, in this new place. Though I must confess to a deep regret that, over these last few years, I have had so few chances to enjoy your company. I certainly hope Irene knew how much esteem I have for you both.
To Vladimir, Xenia and Slava, my family and I would like to offer you our condolences, and we wish you much love and serenity in coming to terms with Irene's passing.
To Vladimir and family. It is very sad to hear of Irenes passing. All the best
Irene will always hold a special place in my heart and in my memories. She showed me what true friendship was, with her warmth and compassion, sensitivity and understanding.
I am privileged to have known her and to have been her friend.
The world is a sadder, poorer place without her, but her courage and spirit will continue to be an inspiration to us all. Thank you Irene.
To dear Vladimir, Xenia and Slava. Our thoughts are very much with you at this time. When you all arrived in NZ so many years ago we thought what a wonderful family you were and how lucky the University and NZ were that you chose us. Of course, Irene was central to that wonderful family and we will remember her as a mother foremost as well as a mathematician. We have great admiration for the way she was able to adapt to a new culture, look after her family so well and to further her study and career. You will miss her very much but can always be glad you had her as a wife and mother.
To Vladimir and family: I wish you strength at this time of loss. Remember all the good times as these memories will live forever.
Dear Xenia and family, my thoughts are with you in these challenging moments.
She was a brave woman and a good mother. I consider myself privileged to have known Irene. May she rests in peace.
Irene, I'm very thankful to have known you as a boss, a mentor, and a friend. Sincere condolences to the family!
Dear Xenia ~ I wish you and your family much strength in being with the loss of your dear mum, wife - and all that she was to you. She sounds like a beautiful person... in time, I hope that you will feel more moments of joy to have shared her life. Take care xx
Please accept my sincerest sympathy on the loss of your mother. May you be comforted by those that surround you.

Dear Vladimir, Xenia and Slava,
I consider myself so very blessed to have known Irene, such a remarkable, inspiring and magnificent woman whose memory I will forever treasure.
My most heartfelt condolences on your immeasurable loss Vladimir, Xenia, Slava and Murlysha – you will all forever be in my thoughts and prayers.
Irene will be sorely missed. She was a model of strong, dynamic and loving woman, and a beloved friend since so many years. Dear Vova, Xenia and Slava, I am near you in this moment of sorrow.
Cher Vladimir, Xenia and Slava,
Unfortunately as I am attending a conference half way around the world, I will not be able to come to the ceremony celebrating Irene's life, but I would like you to know that I will be thinking of you tomorrow.
With our deepest sympathy
Irene was a dear friend and colleague. We all miss her.

Very saddened by the news of your loss. My sympathies to you all.
My heart is truly saddened...
My thoughts are with you...
With deepest sympathy,
Richard Frenette, ing., Ph.D.

Dear Xenia and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. It is clear to see how inspirational your mum has been in your life and how deeply she will be missed. Much love at this difficult time.
Though I never met you properly, I was friends with Slava in primary school and have kept in contact every few years, I was also lectured at Vic Uni by your husband Vladimir. My condolences go out to your family at this time.

Hi Irene, I met you once, I'm Slava's friend. I don't know you very well but I have been thinking about you, and I know that you were a great woman who studied neat things, and you brought Slava into this world, which we are all very grateful for. This is a very beautiful picture of you. May you rest in peace. My condolences to the Pestov family.
