Zia Ida will be greatly missed by so many. She was an inspiration to me as an aunt, a woman and a fellow mother. She taught me the importance of determination, love, family and faith. I know that she and my Nonno Jack are sitting together catching up while looking down on all of us. Rest in peace Zia I love you and give Nonno a big hug and kiss for me.

Kimberley Aiello

Ida Aiello was born in 1940 in Cleto, Italy. Her parents Francesco and Natalina Romano raised her and her four siblings in very harsh times. She endured the hardships of poverty, destruction of war, the immigration to a new country and the separation from her own family.

Ida always believed “a life lived for others is a life with meaning”. In twenty-nine months she gave birth to five children; Gina, Luigi, Rick, Ron and Marcello. To her pride are wonderful caring and fun spirited individuals. Ida was a director; she was the “capitano”. Always organizing events and parties. Even this last New Years Eve celebration at her home, from her bed she was instructing family to chill the champagne, put the champagne glasses on a tray and to cut the panettone. She was also planning for after her death. She wanted to be part of her grandchildren’s first communion. Early December she shopped and bought gowns with Mikaila and Bianca for their ceremony in April. A gift has been prepared for her other grandchildren; Daniel, Chiara and Joleen. As a family we’ve enjoyed her numerous family dinners all beginning with Ida saying “mangiare”and always ending with full tummies and Ida still saying “mangiare”.

Cherished memories of the family usually involved food. One to share is our love of her chicken soup and her “sauce “. Especially her granddaughter, Bianca, who was very concerned that her sauce recipe would go to heaven with her. Her grandchildren will always remember her for her never ending supply of chocolate and treats. The family was also very fortunate to have taken two trips with Ida joined also with Maria and Gino Aiello, and Emma and Saverio Epifano.

She’ll be remembered for her tremendous commitment to her faith, her unending generosity, kindness and open door to her family and friends, and finally her years of battling cancer. She endured surgery and fifty-two chemotherapy treatments, with the knowledge and hope that every treatment may give her a little more time with her family. Her courage is inspiring. Ida participated in the Cancer Society Relay for Life the last three years. She would walk the survivors lap cheered on by her family. In June the family will walk in her honour.

When speaking of her childhood her thoughts were reflected by “one door closes and another one opens”. Times like these open our hearts and let us freely say these things that we wouldn’t normally say, do things we may not normally do. If there was one last direction Ida was to give us, to give all of us, it is to fight for life and to live for family!

Ida was an amazing women and a wonderful mother-in-law.
Love Always

To Luigi, Kim, Bianca & Chiara:

We were saddened to hear that Ida passed away. As we read the obituaries we saw the two pictures of Ida. One, a beautiful young woman and the other of the proud mother and courageous woman who fought cancer so valiantly for the past six years. We pray for you and your family. A true testamnet of a person's life is the loved ones they leave behind and the values they instill in their children. We think Ida was a very rich woman by these measures.

Our sincere sympathies to the entire Aiello family.

Your friends,

Karen, Arianna & Domenic Amendola

Emilia and Dino Cefaloni

To the Aiello Family,

On behalf of my family, I want to express our deepest condolences during this grievous time over the loss of your family matriarch.

Ida was a friend from my parents home town in Italy and have only heard great things about her. Ida was a brave woman. Just a couple of months ago when we saw her last -she seemed like such a fighter, and so very proud of her family - a great husband, 4 beautiful sons and a very caring and wonderful daughter and finally the grand-children - all were the light of her life.

God Bless.
