Sol was part of my Dad's regular foursome at Hylands and they would discuss and solve the woes of the world as they played. On one occasion, a too-eager golfer behind them hit his ball straight into the back of my Dad's head knocking him to the ground. He was not seriously injured. Sol's letter to the club regarding the incident showed his gift with words. The chap responsible said that once he realized what had happened he was too afraid that these guys (all veterans in their late 70s) might beat him up so he didn't approach to apologize. That was the first and only time these 4 men were considered scary. It made them rather proud to be thought of as fighters, when all together they'd never likely thrown a single punch.
Sol was a delight to play golf with or to simply stop and chat with by the putting green. He truly exemplified all that is good.
My sincere sympathies to your family for the loss of this lovely man. May your memories bring you peace, comfort and smiles in the days ahead.
