So sorry to hear of his passing, he lived a good life and did more than any ten of us will ever do. He went sliding in with a Magnam PI Stop. We got to spend time with him at the Big W and flew with him in the Jet. Good times. Terry just talked to him about a month ago. Great conversation. We will miss you Cal. RIP. Love and Prayers to your family in this time of need.

Cal was an institution in Huntington Park where we moved to from Ohio in 1954. I got to know him from attending hundreds of the televised shows from the car dealership and ballroom there as well as the ones taped in Hollywood later.
He added so much to my life through these shows and country music. It was never boring on the weekends for the pre-teens and teenagers who got to rub elbows with stars like Glen Campbell (upcoming), Buck Owens, Barbara Mandrell (still in curls), the Maphis family, the Canadian Sweethearts, Cliff Crofford and Billy Mize, Johnny and Jonie Mosby, not to mention the awesome musicians like Glen D. Hardin. I cannot mention all of the talents Cal introduced. He was generous and a man to look up to.
I was delighted to have been at his daughter Barbara's wedding and received a thank you note for the photos I took and sent on to the family.

Go See Cal!!!

Fly HIGH Shiny! For those that read My Dog Spot will understand that nickname. Hearing Cal had passed on brought back bitter-sweet memories of my father passing some years back. My family started with Cal when he took over Ralph Williams Ford, the rest is history.
In 75 I started @ Dodge store in South Gate and then Huntington Beach helping with commercials for CW and redlining vehicles. My first car, 65 Mustang that was taken in on trade. My father Ivan Smith ran Fleet in LB, was GM Federal Way (Cheryl (Huwe) Hicks) you probably served my father also, Anchorage then back to LB shortly after my dad left the organization. I know Cal was saddened my father left and gave him sage advice. However they still kept in touch as I did going by the Ford Store seeing people I grew up around.
Fact is CW was a great man, I would rank him close to Henry Ford for ingenuity. Funny moments, first gift I got for Christmas @ Rochelles in LB, a bag of Nuts.. “Nuts to you from Cal and Sue”. Cal, now are flying hirer than you ever dreamed of with a different set of wings. I would also like to give tribute to others that had the privilege to work and learn from Cal. My father Ivan Smith, Richard Johnson, Eddy McAdams, L.D. Crabtree, Phil Love, Jerry Hansink, Larry Mann and many others. For those that have left us, no fighting over the next “up” Those still here with fond memories, tip your hat to the man that changed the car business."

To know Cal was to love Cal. I was a waitress in the 1980's at CoCos Restaurant in Federal Way, WA. Right down the street from Worthington Ford.He was always a pleasure to take care of. Every time he was in town he would come for breakfast or lunch and he always asked for my section. I was known as Cal's Gal. It still brings a smile to my face. His presence would fill the room when he walked in. Man he was tall.:) I am only 5'. His smile, sense of humour and kindness was such a part of my life. He was truly a wonderful Man. My prayers go out to his family. May God surround you with his Love and comfort you. He will truly be missed.

Living in California in the early 70's. Mr. Worthington was more entertaining than all the shows that broke for his commercials. He real did hang upside down from a biplane. Seeing Cal Worthington ads was a good as watching whatever show was on! You never knew what to expect from him and it always amazed me how quickly he could run through the details of each car and its price. Always entertaining! He also brings back the 50's in my memory as I was born in '47 it was hard to remember a time that he wasn't running an ad on TV. Cal, you will always be remembered with a smile on your face and fun in your voice and a love for Big Animals!! I admired his energy and ageless ambition. He lived life to the fullest and won't be forgotten. Many air traffic controllers recognized his plane's call sign and would ask if "Spot" was on board. "High-pockets" Cal Worthington sponsored Saturday afternoon TV movies in 1956, always referring to himself as High Pockets. I bought a very good used '55 Chevy Impala hardtop from him that year, only because he filled my Saturday afternoons with pleasure and I wanted to pay him back. He was a great guy and a fellow Okie

Mr. Worthington was a storied used car salesperson but should be remembered as one of the safest pilots in the air. The fact that he'd flown a flawless flight just ten days prior to his passing at age 92 should be one for the aviation history books.

September 10, 2013
My thanks to Mr. Worthington for his honorable service to our Nation, and for putting a smile in my heart through the years.

My deepest sympathy to all who loved Mr. Worthington. May you be comforted and sustained by beautiful memories, until that GLORIOUS reunion in Paradise.

Thinking back at his funny commercials, always including his 'Dog Spot', who wasn't necessarily a 'dog', I can't help but smile. The image of him singing his jingle, with that famous line. "I'll stand upon my head to beat all deals", while actually standing on his head, brought joy to my young heart, and what Southern California child didn't know all the words of his jingle by heart?
Cal Worthington lived life FULLY, until the day he was born into his eternal life. A very good example for us all!
"I'll stand upon my head, 'till my EARS are turnin' red, go see Cal, go see Cal, go see Cal ... "

Cal will be missed. This is a man that lived life to the fullest. I worked for Cal Worthington Ford in Anchorage Alaska for about five years. The few times I met him he was gracious and kind. I drove him to the airport once and another time stood in line next to him for a flu shot. He gave me a job after years as a stay at home mom. I gained skills that have allowed me to succeed. Cal Worthington was a Southern California legend. Growing up I have such fond memories of his commercials, I will always remember him.
September 10, 2013
I quickly became familiar with the "Go See Cal" commercials when I moved to southern California in 1985. Cal seemed like a friend to all, a genuine humanitarian, not just a car dealer. I loved seeing who his dog Spot would be in each commercial, and how nervous Cal appeared, yet he was able to pull off a memorable ad despite being juxtaposed to a critter who could potentially end his life then and there. He left a legacy of bringing smiles to all who remember him, and a catchy tune that no one can get out of his head.
September 10, 2013
As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

September 10, 2013
I remember Mr Worthington's Ford dealership on Bellflower in Long Beach. My Dad was in the Navy and stationed there. My Dad accepted an assignment to recruit in Chico, CA, several years before Mr Worthington bought his ranch in nearby Orland. Despite his wealth, Mr Worthington was a down to earth guy. Rest in peace, you will be missed very much!
September 10, 2013

Hey! I remember Cal Worthington, I used to watch his commercial on LA channel from Long Beach. Remember him riding a bull on one of those commercials. I was station at Edwards AFB, about 80 miles east of LA, close to Lancaster, from 1960 to 1964. Rest in peace Mr. Worthington.

What an accomplished man. To think that he was just recently piloting his plane from Alaska home to CA. Cal was bigger than life and lived every day to its fullest. He has left a wonderful legacy to his children and his children's children. There should be more Cal Worthingtons in this world. He will now begin a new chapter.

I BOUGHT A 1972 CHEVY NOVA FROM CAL WORTHINGTON IN 1977 WHEN I LIVED IN WHITTER CALIFORNIA. I REMEMBER THE SLOGANS "IF YOU WANT A CAR GO SEE CAL" AND "CAL WOTHINGTON AND HIS DOG SPOT"

what a shock to hear of the passing of Cal Worthington. every time I was in Los Angeles I would always look for his car dealership. his commercials would always make me laugh. he certainly will be missed. I hope your dealership in heaven will be successful. God bless your family at this time of sadness.
