Bruce St. Laurent Memoriam
Laurent was on his motorcycle as part of the motorcade when he was struck about 5 p.m. by a white Ford F-150 pickup on the southbound entrance ramp at 45th Street. St. Laurent was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera said.
The owner of the truck also was not immediately identified.
Police officers from Jupiter and police chiefs from West Palm Beach and Jupiter attended a news conference tonight at St. Mary's to discuss the incident.
Obama was in West Palm Beach Sunday afternoon for a campaign event at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The president has been notified of the accident during the flight from Palm Beach International Airport to Washington, D.C., White House press Secretary Jay Carney said.

Coming up on 3 yrs and still not any easier without you. Im trying to better myself and let life go on, but I almost feel guilty for being happy without you here. Anytime something good happens your the first person I want to tell all about it. I try my best to take care of mama like you asked. She's got a hole that I just can't fill, but I'll never give up on her...ever. I miss your late night texts and jokes and your early morning sun rise pictures. I miss your laugh, your hugs, your smell and your encouraging words. You always pushed me to be better, I'm just sorry I never amounted to anything to be proud of. Hi baby, it's been a long and sad year. I miss you so much. I'm trying to keep my head up but it's been really hard lately. You were always there to make me smile when things were rough. I need one of your quick jokes and that awesome smile that came with it. I would give anything to be able to just lay next to you and snuggle. We had so many plans for old age together. We were saddened to hear of Officer Bruce St. Laurent's tragic passing. He was not only a father, husband, grandfather, and officer, he was a true hero. From playing Santa Claus, volunteering for so many causes such as Habitat For Humanity, and countless other charities, he served the community with grace and dignity. Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to his lovely wife, Brenda, and his four beautiful children. We never met Bruce, but feel we knew him for a long time. I am truly sorry for the family of Officer Bruce St. Laurent. I worked with him during my years as a police officer at the Jupiter Police Department. He was a good man, and was very helpful when I was a rookie learning the ropes. He helped me through my first serious traffic accident investigation and I remember his patience and eagerness to help me through it. He always had a good sense of humor as well. He never acted cocky or that he was to good for anyone. He was one of the good guys, truly. This is a loss to law enforcement and I know to others that were much closer to him. I only knew him from his post when he assisted the school crossing guard right in front of The Shores in Jupiter when my daughter who is now in college was just in grade school. And on occasion, "hiding" in the bushes to catch (and rightfully so!) speeders! For some reason, his accidntal death has weighed so heavily on my mind...I keep thinking , what is the lesson here, and it is one we all too often forget: life is precious. When we say "good bye" we never really know how long forever can be. My heart goes out to his family and fellow officers. I heard he was an amazing man- may you have peace knowing that he was chosen to remind us of an important lesson. If we can remember this- it is so easy to forget- his deaath will not have been in vain. My heart goes out to the family of the person driving the pickup truck. Who knows why these things happen. To make sense of these heartaches seems fruitless when the wound is so fresh. My prayers are with both families to find some closure to this. May God bless you all.

I have gone though the Guest Book for Officer St. Laurent and it only verifies one undeniable fact, that Bruce St. Laurent was a wonderful person. There are countless stories about him helping others and always with that smile. He was in the truest sense of the words a public servant. Bruce, I am shocked at your loss. Your dedication to your job and the community that you served is only part of the story. The other part is who you were as a man, one who we can all look up to. We have all lost a dear friend. His brothers and sisters in blue have lost a leader, a mentor, a trusted partner, a brother. We have lost a friend, one who you could rely on to be there to help in any situation. His children have lost their father who loved them dearly and wanted only to give them the best and to make them best they can be. Brenda has lost her companion and best friend on that terrible day when he didn't come home. I have had the honor and privledge of knowing Bruce for the past 12 years as a fellow law enforcement officer. I can tell you that he was one of the finest officers I have ever known. He was great at his job and an asset to the people of his city. I will always remember his amazing sence of humor and the way he cared about everyone around him. 8 years ago, I had a knock on my door..it was Jupiter Police - why are they here I wondered? It was Bruce...he knew Dave and wanted to offer his condolences and give me his card/name/number if I ever needed anything. That really touched my heart coming from basically a stranger to me. Our heart's and prayers go out to the St. Laurent family. I first met Bruce when he started working at JPD those 20 years ago, while working dispatch. He was always kind, made you smile and always seem happy. Always had a good word to say about his fellow officers. My son knew him when he came into the video store where he was working and also when he worked for the Town. Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you, as he chose to watch over and protect the citizens of Jupiter. Bruce was known through jupiter as an excellant peace officer. He will greatly be missed. I personally knew Bruce for over 20 years.
