Dear Victoria, Lilly & family, I am in total shock, when I couldn't reach Matt by text or phone I thought it strange but knew as always he would be back to me. Another note from one of the investment companies and a disconnected phone made me search & I just don't know what to say. Matt and you and Lilly were family & I can't imagine a world without his smiling face, caring heart and love everytime you spoke to him. We will be in touch with you soon. Meantime you are in our thoughts and prayers. Much love, Dianne & Wayne.

Dear McGrath Family: Please know that Matt presence was a blessing to so many. I was friends with Matt in high school and college and only wish that I had gotten to know him as an adult, husband and father. My fondest memories are from Gainesville when I was still at CNHS and Matt was a UF Freshman. He taught me much about campus and Greek life. Go Gators. Recently, I was looking through the CNHS 1983 yearbook and saw the spread of the class president, Matt McGrath, An Officer and a Gentleman. It reminded me so much of why so many of us were drawn to Matt. I have always and will continue to remember Matt as gracious, welcoming, funny, attractive and lively. I was fortunate to have him as a friend and he truly enriched my life.

Victoria and the entire McGrath family and friends, I just heard this terrible news. I join you in your sadness, and memories, that the loss of Matt brings. I know that I also join all who knew Matt in saying that he lived life to the fullest. I had the privilege of being a childhood friend of Matt and his brother Jim, and enjoyed many days of surfing with them at their home break. I was then always welcomed into the McGrath home. May God bless all of you with a peace that defies understanding. You are a fine family, and you will see Matt again someday.

No words can soothe your grief, but know it's a burden you share with many. Matt was a kind, happy, generous person at a time (high school) when so many fellow students weren't. The world is a poorer place for the loss of his light.

God's peace be with you.

Words will not erase the pain or deep sorrow that you and your family are going through, but prayers are being sent to you and your family for some comfort and peace. The memories of my brother (Brian Anthony) and Matt go way back to their high school days. The things they did together and were always there for each other, made them such good friends. Cherish the memories that you hold close to your heart and keep Matt alive in your spirit.
To you, Victoria and Lilly and the rest of the McGrath family, my deepest sympathy.

Matt was truly a special person to me. We were finance majors together and he was my big brother at Pi Kappa Alpha. I live in Stuart and it would make my day when I would run into him around town. My fourth son is named Matthew . I always liked the name and my dear friend certainly contributed to my liking it so much. He was such a fine person.

Dear Matt,
I was remembering way back when we were kids and you all came up to visit and you could not say George's name and you would always call him "Gick". Years later when we were adults I remember you walking up to him and shaking his hand saying Gick how are you. When you first met Linda I believe it was as plastic spider that you put on her to welcome her to the family. I remember standing next to the pool one night when I was down visiting and ya came at me and through me in. You had an AWESOME sence of humor and we will all miss you and love you. Believe me when I say THEY ARE ALL HAPPY MEMORIES.I pray for Victoria and Lilly. I pray for Aunt Rita, Uncle Jim, Carol, Jim, Jennifer, James III, Julia and Mike, that God helps them through this and that you watch over them always. Rest in Peace Matthew.
Love you always,
Cousin Mary and Your new cousin-in-law John.

Victoria there are no words which can make this terrible pain any better for you but know that I am so sorry. Matt was a couple years ahead of me at UF. He was a Pike and I was a Delt next door and we both earned Finance degrees from the college of Business. He is too young to be gone.

When I look at the picture of Matt smiling it reminds me of all of the memories I have of Matt. I have known Matt since he was 4 or 5. I was surfing with him the day he was attacked by a shark. I wrapped a towel around his arm so that he would not see the size of the bite. I said Matt stay here and I will get the car and drive you to the hospital. Matt said what about my board. Simply put, God only made one Matt McGrath. We were lucky to know him. I am so sorry for the McGrath family and especially his daughter.
