HULLIHAN, William F. "Bill"
86 years old, of North Palm Beach, died at his home on August 31, 2013, surrounded by those who loved and cared for him. Born in Freeport, Illinois, on July 22, 1927, he was the son of Leo D. and Alta Wilhelm Hullihan. Raised in Boone, Iowa, Bill attended Sacred Heart School, Boone High School, and, after World War II, Boone Junior College. He was a three-sport star for Boone High School and won golf's Junior College National Championship for Boone with four childhood friends. At the University of Florida, he earned bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees and played his way onto the university's golf team. In between degrees at U of F, he came to West Palm Beach for a teaching stint at Palm Beach High. There, a mutual friend would introduce him to the love of his life, Jeanne Oldfather. They would marry in Hendersonville, North Carolina, on August 23, 1955 and have their first child, Lynn, in Gainesville, before settling permanently in West Palm Beach (Jeanne's hometown) in 1960. Bill was a member of the original faculty for Florida Atlantic University when it opened in 1963 and retired from there in 2004 after 41-years. His long tenure and passion for teaching earned him the honor of Grand Marshall for most of his last 20-years with FAU. He also served as Dean of the College of Education, founding faculty for FAU's North Campus, and planning committee member for the now acclaimed Abacoa Campus in Jupiter. Dr. Hullihan was preceded in death by his youngest son, Kevin Clark Hullihan, in March, 2000. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jeanne; three children, Lynn H. Hartley (David) of Palm Coast, Florida, Patrick Hullihan of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Timothy Hullihan (Carrie) of North Palm Beach; and seven grandchildren, Ian and Emily Hartley, Michael and Kristin Hullihan, and Ryan, Ethan, and Matthew Hullihan. William is also survived by many close friends in the West Palm Beach area and an amazing team of caregivers who made his final time on earth meaningful, dignified and comfortable. A Funeral Service in celebration of his life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 1201 South Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida, 33401, with Rev. Alfredo Hernandez, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of Service. The Hullihan family will also be receiving friends in fellowship immediately following the Service. The graveside committal at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of William F. Hullihan to the Kevin Clark Hullihan Foundation at www.hullihanfoundation.com or by mail to 840 Country Club Dr., North Palm Beach, Florida 33408. QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL HOME (561) 832-5171

Dear Hullihans,
I'm very sorry to hear of Uncle Bill's passing... We've all lost a great friend! I suspect he's now working on a 'new level' of quick quips and one-liners...
