Douglas Wayne Howell was born on October 23, 1951 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Delbert Wayne Howell and Neoma Ruth Avery Howell. His childhood asthma caused the family to move to Arizona for a time and then they settled in Baldwin Park, California.
Doug had lived and worked in Blythe for 11 years, when he met Marsi in 2005, who was just 2 days his junior. Coincidentally, she had also attended Mount San Antonio College at the same time, but they never ran into one another. The two finally married on September 26, 2009 he became part of her extended family and she of his.
Doug was able to retire early at age 63, after 30 years with the State of California for Cal Trans. They hoped and expected there would be lots more traveling and visiting families. The two had fallen in love with the Rim Country area in Arizona near Payson. They searched for home there for a couple of years. Finally, in 2015, they bought their dream home in the forest east of Payson, just below the majestic Mogollon Rim, in the area of Christopher Creek.
His health had been declining, with different issues. Still he managed to enjoy their home and the beautiful area; do some fishing, riding trails in the Polaris, some trips with grandchildren, and to visit family, but it was getting harder and harder.
He passed away in his sleep at their home in Arizona, October 2nd. Many plans for life were left unfinished when his light went out, way too early
Doug is survived by his wife, Marsi, Mother Neoma and one sister Sandy.

I loved my brother Doug very much. I didn't get a chance to attend his memorial and say a proper goodbye but he is forever in my thoughts and I miss him very much. Rest in peace Doug. Until we meet again, your sister Sandy.
