Kudos to James Ingram for his stirring remembrances of the master of melisma, Sir Bobby. However, to set the record straight, let's give proper credit to his two Hall of Fame guitarists: 1. The Wizard, the great Mel Brown on guitar. And of course, 2. The incomparable guitarist who so perfectly fused blues and jazz on his many Duke recordings, HOFer Mr. Wayne Bennett. For fifty years I remember notifying my cadre of Bay Area Bobby fanatics with the simple words " The MAN is coming." They knew what I was taking about. Whether playing uptown at a tony Nob Hill eatery or to "his base" in a chitlin circuit blues dive in East Oakland, it was always "Blues Time" when Mel Jackson introduced "The Man's" triumphant arrival. I will always smile when thinking about Bobby encouraging his rookie sax player to take your time son, take your time." Bobby did just that as he chronicled through six decades of hits as he said "singing for his supper."

I grew up listening to his music and he's my favorite blues artist. RIP you're loved by many!

Bobby..... I was on tour in Singapore when I got the news.. In this business there are seldom truly original and gifted artists ! You were in a select catagory by yourself. The tight horn's and Mel Bennet going his magic on guitar , I could go on and on. You loved and respected your fans, and they were filled with the spirit of joy when you reached out to shake a hand! Your explosive shows brought hundreds of thousands to there feet! The concert in Chicago in 1984 is my favorite . The time in Phoenix when I spoke to you inside "Big Blue" before you went on was a thrill for me. I love you sir! Thanks for your friendship.
