Family and friends of Mr. Koop I send my sincere condolences. I hope that you can find comfort in coping with your great loss of Mr. Koop. Rest assured that you can also find comfort in our Heavenly Father who is the God of all comfort.- Isaiah 61:2.
I always liked the man. He had a good views and reminded me alot of my father. Gentle spoken man.
Our family has greatly appreciated Dr. Koop's quiet caring for each patient. My mother called him from South Carolina on behalf of a dying baby whose Bible College student parents had no money. Dr Koop agreed by phone to do his best, so Mother raised the air fare. Dr. Koop provided the surgery gratis and saved that little boy's life. Mother had taken me to him years earlier after I almost died and we knew by experience of his compassion. Now, I hope my husband who also died Feb. 25th can meet this wise, loving man.
Thank you for your outstanding service to your country. You were the best force to emerge from the Reagan Administration, a great surprise to all, and you earned the respect of so many with your reason and sensibility. I will always greatly admire you for your wisdom, your courage and your devotion to the advancement of public health over political expediency. Many can still learn from your works.
What a loss to the world. May 2Co.1:2-4 bring comfort to this family during this time of sorrow.Barb(NO)

The world is better because of Dr. C. Everett Koop. As a republican, he had the courage to address unpopular and controversial social issues on a timely and effective manner. Little known, is what he also did to advance initiatives funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to prevent the use of spit tobacco. Thank you.
To my role model -- your spirit will always be remembered, and now, sorely missed. My sympathy to your family for their loss.
I treasure having talked one-on-one with my Surgeon General, Dr. C. Everett Koop. There has been no one who could equal or replace you in this governmental position. Thank you, sir.

Thanks Everett for all you did to help AMERICA. RIP
A truly great man lived to be 96; God bless one & all who cherish his memory; we could have very easily used 96 Dr. Koop's (literally), but we take what we can get.
I had the pleasure of having lunch with Dr. Koop many years ago. Not only did he have my admiration for his great work as a physician and our U.S. Surgeon General, he also had my admiration for who he was as a person. I enjoyed meeting him and spending time that day, and also remember his quick wit and how he made me laugh. My sorrows to his family on their loss.
WE ARE SENDING OUR LOVE,PRAYERS,&CONDOLENCES TO THE KOOP FAMILY,FRIENDS,&ALL WHO KNEW DR. KOOP.
Dr.Koop became a family friend through CMDA, and many years ago Dad and "Chick" travelled together to lay groundwork for future medical missions. They were great Christian brothers here on earth and now I like to think of how this friendship continues in the City of God.
May God bless and comfort your family.
I always admired Dr. Koop. Now he belongs to the ages past, present, future. Christians believe in the resurrection of the body and life everlasting; those of us who never met him on Earth can meet him in Heaven. I truly appreciate Dr. Koop's statement about who he served: “I am the surgeon general of the heterosexuals and the homosexuals, of the young and the old, of the moral or the immoral, the married and the unmarried. I don't have the luxury of deciding which side I want to be on. So I can tell you how to keep yourself alive no matter what you are. That's my job.” I have a son studying to become a physician and I will tell him to keep that quote before him, and to read about the lives of compassionate and skilled physicians and surgeons such as Dr. Koop. "Well Done Good and Faithful Servant".
So sorry for the loss of a truly great man. I haven't smoked in years due to his insistance that everyone should stop.I listened to you Dr.Koop, thank you. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and loved ones.
Death will be conquered. 1 Corinthians 15:29

Dr. Koop did reconstructive surgery on my chest at CHoP in 1979 when I was 16 years of age! Several years later, while he was surgeon general, he took time out of his busy schedule and helped me get a job when I was turned down for bogus medical reasons concerning my chest! Even more importantly, he shared his faith in Jesus Christ with me the first time I ever met him! He truly was a man of his word and a wonderful human being! God Bless You Dr. Koop; my surgeon, my friend, and my brother in Christ! All my prayers to his family!
god speed he was great.....
I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. Please find peace and comfort in Psalms 65:2.
It was Dr. Koop's statement about the severity of nicotine addiction that helped me quit smoking in 1989. Haven't smoked since. I wonder how many others lives he changed for the better and never knew it.
When Dr. Koop was nominated to be Surgeon General, the American Public Health Association, my professional home, fought against him. We later gave him the APHA Award for Excellence, which he richly deserved. He acted on the findings of science, eschewed politics, and told the truth as science revealed it. He was one of the best spokespersons for public health that we have ever had.
Susan S. Addiss MPH, MUrS
Former APHA President

My husband was in the military when we were stationed in Germany. Our adopted daughter was born with serious birth defects of her esophagus. He accepted her in his care and she was sent to the Children's Hospital in Philly. She is married now with a daughter of her own. He saved her life and so many others. He was a kind man and will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
A life well-served in the interest of others. May his family find comfort in God's promises, recorded in Psalms.
My deepest sympahty to family, Dr. Koop's bravery and intlligence pervailed during the AIDS pandemic and he will go down in history for his kind and christian ways in how he publicly addressed AIDs. Go in Peace.
He was a wonderful man to pray for the sick children he helped. We need more people willing to share their faith.
Yes, a great man and using the term great appropriately. I am impressed that he could put his religion aside and to the rational and right thing when it came to fighting AIDS by advising condoms etc. We do need more like him across the board today.

Koop is one of my heros, having saved many lives including, possibly, my own, from the effects of cigarette addiction. I have said for years that the title of my autobiography (yet to be written) would be, J. Everett Koop Saved My Life. His powerful campaign to educate the public about the risks of smoking supported my resolve to end my then 10-year pack-a-day habit, and achieve my ultimate goal, to conceive and raise my children in a smoke-free household. -Lee (cigarette free since 1968)
Sweet God has open arms for his loved ones who come home. C.Everett Koop lived a wonderfully full life on earth helping people unselfishly with his time as well as his ministry and will continue this in heaven.
hurting deeply is part of the healing process and will continue, but always remember our loved one's who have gone on will always be with us as long as their memory is treasured by others.
Love in Christ Jesus

I always thought about you each time I saw the movie "The Longest Yard." Burt Reynolds starred as a prisoner football player, and the warden yelled "Koop" as Reynolds walked away from the coaches and warden. Reynolds picked up the game ball and gaave it to the warden, but the warden wanted him shot because he tought he was trying to escape. "Koop, Koop, Koop."
I will always remember the integrity Dr. C. Everett Koop had despite politics. I pray the his family and friends have comfort because the Bible says that God is near those broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.
Only God knows the full impact this man of deep faith made on this country. I know there is great rejoicing in Heaven at Dr. Koop's arrival.
Life well lived DR. Koop. Thank You.
I'm old enough to remember Dr. Koop as the true warrior he was. I this day and age, it's hard to believe there has EVER been an individual connected to Washington, D.C., that ABSOLUTELY had ALL American's health as his sincere motivation. He was a class-act that can not be duplicated.
He was honest, open minded and genuine. Most Americans thought of him (and some of us STILL DO) as our own, personal family doctor. He was the right man, at the right time.
Thank you Dr. Koop for everything you did for us. May you Rest in Peace with a debt of gratitude we could never repay.
Dr Koop, perhaps the greatest surgeon yet, inspired me as a young nurse, & now as an older nurse. I'm remembering him in my prayers and at the altar, & his family at this time of loss.

Dr. Koop was the first Surgeon General to openly speak about the importance of good nutrition, suggesting that more Americans get less fat and more fiber in their diets. He was a man whose philosophy was well before his time and he should be congratulated on sticking to his guns.
The world lost a truly wonderful human being and a great man with Dr. Koop's death. My most heartfelt sympathy to Dr. Koop's family. He is missed!

Since that time I completely changed my focus from working as an RN in a stressful medical job to helping people regain their health by eating a healthier diet and living a less stressful life. Thank you Dr. Koop. Blessings to his family and all those that were touched by his kind and caring soul. --Rene Oswald

David had a rare form of cancer at the time and was just 6 months old when his first surgery was performed by Dr. Koop in Philadelphia. He will always and forever hold a dear place in the hearts of my mother, brother and me.
My family is still doing the "Koop Scoop" and now in fond memory of this wonderful caring man. We still say in our family "do the KOOP SCOOP" when we sit down on our sofa! Years ago Doctor Koop's had a national tv message to prevent people from common falls and broken hips. Prevent falls/ accidents by doing the "Koop Scoop" : plant two feet straight ahead, lower your bum to back edge of sofa then sit UP straight. Reverse: legs and feet straight ahead THEN slide off sofa onto legs and feet straight ahead STand Up Tall. (most falls happen when people's feet/legs are not planted straight ahead when they stand up and ankles/knees buckle and they fall:( in loving memory still doing the KOOP SCOOP! leslie in Colorado

I greatly admire Dr. Koop and how he stood up for what he believed in. Being a man of faith, he totally ignored the snickers of others when praying to God. Thank you Dr. Koop. God speed.
Mary
Dr. Koop was described by my grandmother as the most kind and caring doctor she had ever met. When my father was a baby, she couldn't control his crying. She rushed him to the hospital and Dr. Koop diagnosed him, his appendix had burst. He preformed emergency surgery on my father. My grandfather had returned from WWII with malaria and was not well either. They didn't have much money and Dr. Koop told them not to worry about not having enough money. If it wasn't for him, I or my son wouldn't be here today.
Rest in peace Doctor. My life is greatly due to you. I will never forget her loving story of you.
Thank you for the many contributions you gave to us all. The world needs more individuals like Dr. Koop. With sympathy to his family.
Sonia Sotomayor's bio is #1 on the NY Times list; Dr. Koop's unique place in history was assured a long time ago; they both have made their respective marks many times over;
God bless his family & so very many friends and admirers wherever they may be;
now others will walk in his footsteps, fondly recall his infinite # of contributions to his fellow man & continue his legacy of excellence. Take care.

Thank you for all the warnings of cigarette smoking.
You saved my life.
Best Regards,

I never met Dr. Koop, but I do remember him during the Reagan/Bush years. I got the impression he was direct but cared tremendously about his patients and people in generally. When aids hit the spotlight, Dr. Koop placed human needs ahead of politics. Something you don't see now days. He will be greatly missed, hopefully some of his medical students learned a few of his leadership traits.
