To the family of Pat Tillman:
I originally signed this book April 24th but have had some time to grieve along with you and think about your Son. My son Jarrod and I had the great opportunity to meet and talk with Pat on several occasions when he was a Sun Devil at Arizona State. He made a real impact on us in that he was so respectful to me and was really, really great to my Son. I took several pictures of Pat and Jarrod together and I proudly have a picture of Pat and Jarrod framed in my office at work in Denver,Colorado and my homes in Colorado Springs and Apache Junction, Az. Pat and Jarrod are smiling big and he has his arm around my Son. The picture was taken in Sun Devil Stadium with his home game #42 jersey on and I will cherish it for the rest of my life. Everyone I have talked to is really proud of Pat. I've spoken to my Son about Pat's patriotism, loyalty, commitment, conviction, honesty and great work ethic and how important all those things are in life- much more important than fame and money. Jarrod and I saw him play every home game as a Sun Devil and he was so much fun to watch! He gave everything he had on every play. He was also very down to earth and approachable as was Kevin who I also had the great opportunity to meet when he played baseball for ASU. I also got to see all three of your sons together at Packard Stadium (during an ASU Baseball Game) when Kevin launched one over the right field wall. He played first base that day and Pat and Richard were gleefully cheering Kevin on as were the rest of us there.

Pat is a true American Hero to me. I was deeply moved by his memorial ceremony in San Jose and the one that was held in Sun Devil Stadium this past Saturday. The toughest part for me at the Tempe Ceremony was watching the release of 27 doves representing each year that Pat spent on this earth with us. They circled the north part of Sun Devil Stadium twice and as they were doing so the local Fox Broadcaster (Kevin McCabe) paid him a great tribute that I will never forget. It really moved me to think about how great of an American Pat was and to think about the things that are really important in life. I want thank you, Mr. Tillman, for acknowledging the people of Tempe and Phoenix regarding Pat's life here. The Valley of the Sun really loved him as one of our own and we'll never forget him. I could feel his love for us as well. We will see him again and I'm certain he is with God right now watching over all of you. I'm really proud that I got the opportunity to meet both of your sons...you did a wonderful job raising them. God Bless your family and God Bless Pat. I'm personally still grieving but I rest easy knowing I will see him again.
God Bless Your Family,
A fellow Sun Devil,
Lenny Avalos
