Allen Groff Obituary


Allen E. Groff, 93 years old of New Bloomfield, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015 at The Manor at Perry Village. He was born December 22, 1921 in New Bloomfield to Allen and Margaret (Whitekettle) Groff. He was an Army Veteran of WW II, a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Markelsville, and a member, past commander and quartermaster of the New Bloomfield VFW Post #7463 and past quartermaster for Perry County VFW. He enjoyed horseshoe pitching and gardening.
Allen is survived by his son, Charles Groff of New Bloomfield; daughters, Vickie Master of Mt. Pleasant Mills and Lou Ann Barrick of Newville; brother, Patrick Groff of Thompsontown; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and Helen Groff. He was preceded in death by brothers, Richard, Cornelius, Tyrus, Leonard and Rodney Groff and sisters, Rebecca Wagner and Rachel Spanger.
Family and friends are invited to services on Saturday at St. Johns UCC, 7007 Creek Road, Newport for a viewing from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM with Pastors Sara Aker and Lewis Burgett officiating. Burial will follow in the Newport Cemetery with Military Honors by the Perry County Military Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the New Bloomfield Fire Co, PO Box 22, New Bloomfield, PA. 17068.
