Clarence R. Fortney, 85, of Mechanicsburg, died Friday, September 21, 2012 in Heritage Harbor, Carlisle.
He was a retired Supply Systems Analyst for the Naval Supply Depot, Mechanicsburg; Owner/ Operator of Fortney Garden Center, Mechanicsburg for over 50 years; Master Gardner at Homeland Center - Harrisburg for over 25 years; United States Army Veteran of WWII; member of Country and Town Baptist Church, Mechanicsburg and had attended Bible Baptist Church, Shiremanstown; former member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Harrisburg; member of 29th Street Golden Age Club; NARFE; member and former president of Supervisor Association at the Navy Depot. He was a recipient of numerous awards for his Crime Watch activities while in Harrisburg and a 1951 Graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
Clarence was the son of the late G. Russell and Anna R. Martz Fortney and is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Mullen Fortney; two sons, Mark L. Fortney, Blacksburg, VA; David K. & wife Joanne L. Fortney, Mechanicsburg; two grandsons, D. Arthur & wife Erin Manchor and Sean D. Fortney; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fackler-Wiedeman Funeral Home, 23rd and Derry Streets, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Scott Minnich, Officiating. Burial in East Harrisburg Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

I'm very sorry to hear about Clarence's passing. I went to Christ Lutheran with the Fortney's and was friends with Dave. My mother (Mildred Shader), who we just lost three weeks ago, was a very close friend of the Fortney's. I share your feelings of losing a parent. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

I was so shocked to hear about your father's passing. you have my heart felt condolences and I remember when you and your father came to eat in Homeland's dining room and always looking for something cold to drink and you came looking for me. those are memories that i can hold on to when i think of you and your father.
