Doris Gallagher Obituary

Doris Jean Gallagher, 83 of Camp Hill passed away with family at her side on Thursday, February 21, 2013. Born in Harrisburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Mary and John Grandon. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William E. Gallagher; and brother, John Grandon, Jr. Surviving are sister, Helen Smith of Lemoyne; her daughters, Brenda Pfautsch of Arnold, MD and Susie Miller of Chugiak, AK; her son, David Miller of Harrisburg, PA; 3 grandsons, Ryan, Matt and Cody; and great-grandson, Noah. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives that were very much loved by Jean.
She was a quiet and gentle soul who made a huge difference in many people's lives. She enjoyed gardening, decorating for the holidays, playing cards, and being a loving mother and grandmother. She graduated from Lemoyne High School in 1947 and was proud of the many letters acquired in sports. She worked a variety of positions in Harrisburg, PA and Bowie, MD; including volunteer work at Holy Spirit and other organizations.
Services will be held at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 1300 Bridge Street, New Cumberland on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 11:00am, followed immediately by a celebration of her life at Nino's Bistro, 1801 Market Street, Camp Hill.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence, 1701 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110. The angels that work there provided much comfort to both Jean and her family in her final days and we are eternally grateful for their compassion and kindness.

Aunt Jean was a great lady, fun, loving, ready with a laugh. I always enjoyed watching the card games among Johnny and Maxine, Helen and Arch, and Jean. Now they're all gone -- and we're the worse for their loss. I enjoyed seeing Aunt Jean more often when she moved back to central PA from MD. Hard to believe it's been almost ten years. RIP.
