Sharon and Family,

Harry was a true gentleman and I was privileged to work as his secretary when he was the Division Chief of Archives and Manuscripts. As he advanced to Bureau Director it was also my pleasure to work for him when needed.

I remember when he and several of the archivists and staff members rescued flood-damaged records in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Agnes in 1972. He pitched right in and then wrote the booklet After Agnes which chronicled those efforts and became a guide for disasters of this type. All of his historical scholarship is to be praised.

I was able to visit Harry at Arden Courts this past June. Although he did not know me I was blessed to be able to see him. My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.

I am so sorry to hear of Harry's passing. He was outstanding as the State Archivist of Pennsylvania. He was not afraid to get his hands dirty despite his leadership position.
His encouragement, throughout much of my service with the PHMC , helped shape my career as an Associate Archivist.
Many warm thoughts and prayers to his family.

Sincerely,
Jim Arnold
