Irwin Witmer Obituary

Irwin L. Witmer, 91, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Rheems Nursing Center. Born in Dauphin County, he was the son of the late Clinton and Sarah (Lentz) Witmer. He was married for 61 years to Mary Elizabeth (Gall) Witmer who died in 2004.
Irwin was a member of Elizabethtown Mennonite Church, where he served as a deacon for 27 years and earlier as the Sunday school superintendent. An electrician, he retired in 1990 from Martin Electrical Service. After retirement he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Irwin was a graduate of Hershey High School.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father Elmer Landvater; Brothers: Martin, Richard and Paul Landvater; a grandson Matthew Witmer and a granddaughter Anne Elizabeth Landis.
Irwin is survived by his children: Vernon L., husband of Doris J. (Bechtel) Witmer, Elizabethtown; Doris J. Timko, Elizabethtown; Kenneth R., husband of Judy A. (Ebersole) Witmer, Manheim; Rosalie A., wife of Mark J. Ward, Columbia; Eldon J., husband of Sheri E. (Sager) Witmer, Manheim and Howard E., husband of Iona E. (Winters) Witmer, Elizabethtown; 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a brother Harold Landvater.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Elizabethtown Mennonite Church, 300 South Spruce Street, Elizabethtown at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call on Saturday at the church from 9:00-10:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
