John Donovan Obituary


Major John H. Donovan, U.S. Army Retired, age 93, formerly of Phoenixville, PA passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at Emeritus at Creekview, Mechanicsburg.
He was a graduate of Boston College, where he earned a degree in nursing. He retired from the U.S. Army, serving many years of his military career as a registered nurse, teaching and specializing in psychiatric nursing. After retiring from the Army he went on to serve as the head of Coatesville Veterans Hospital Psychiatric Ward.
While serving in the infantry during World War ll, Major Donovan was held as a Prisoner Of War in a German War Camp and went on to serve our country during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. While in the service and following his retirement Major Donovan enjoyed traveling throughout the world with his wife Lois who passed away in February of 2011.
Major Donovan was a member of the Phoenixville Historical Society and the Charlestown Nature Society of Phoenixville. He was an avid golfer and racquetball player, having won a racquetball tournament at the age of 83.
The widower of Lois K. Donovan, he is survived by a son Michael Donovan and wife Angela of Mechanicsburg, two grandchildren Tyler and Elise Donovan and was preceded in death by his daughter Patricia Donovan.
Memorial services with military honors will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg where there will be a visitation from 9:00 a.m. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in Trindle Spring Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.

Mike and Angie we are very sorry for your loss and for your children's loss of their Grandfather. Mike your Dad was an amazing man! I am sure his service was so greatly appreciated by so many people.
