Syke was a good friend and helped my son at the Y on 6th street. I worked with him in the Labor and Industry building. He was always cheerful and got along with everyone. He will be missed by many. Condolences to Maggie and his family.

Syke and many of his Harrisburg Giants visited my Mechanicsburg Middle School classroom to share their experiences playing in the Negroe Leagues. It was one of the most fun, deeply memorable and totally authentic learning opportunities my students and I ever had about life during segregation. Thank you for your service to our country and to your contributions to the betterment of society by using baseball as an opportunity to dispel prejudices, bias and discrimination. Rest In Peace, Syke, and all your teammates who went before you. The Giants will always be remembered!
