Martin L. Shertzer Jr. (Red), 77, of Reservoir Dr., Middletown, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday September 25, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on November 12, 1935 in Steelton and was the son of the late Martin L. Sr. and Emma Cobaugh Shertzer.
He was of the Protestant faith and an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Red was a retired supervisor for American Steel and a bus driver for the Derry Township School District.
Red was one of the original members and founders of the Big Buck Archery Club, Hummelstown. He also was a member of the Hummelstown American Legion Post 265. He enjoyed painting, hunting, fishing, archery and woodcrafts but his greatest joy came from the love he received from his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Eby and a four legged friend, Marino.
Martin is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen M. Shertzer; two sons, Jesse E. and wife Lynne Shertzer of Hummelstown and Michael A. husband of Lori Shertzer of Middletown; two grandsons, Christopher E. and wife Trisha Shertzer of VA, and Benjamin A. Shertzer of Aliquippa, PA; two brothers, William Shertzer of Middletown and James husband of Harriet Shertzer of Middletown; two sisters, Shirley G. wife of Jerry Leonard of Chambers Hill and Pauline Shertzer of Middletown; two great-grandsons, Mason E. and Bryce L. Shertzer of VA; four legged companions, Murphy, Drake and Elmo.
Keeping with Red's wishes, there will be no service or visitation.
Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that memorial contributions in Martin's name may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Very sorry to hear. Marty was a GREAT guy a joy to be around. We enjoyed driving bus with Marty, Love & Prayers to the family.

I worked with marty for several years at American Steel & Aluminum. So sad to hear of your passing Marty but know that you are in a better place know and that you are resting in peace.
