I taught under Mel at Sara Lindemuth School in Susquehanna Township School District. He was professional, fair and had a good sense of humor. I admired his approach to leadership and his positive attitude. He made a significant contribution to the school, students and community he served. His was a life taken too soon. He will be missed but will also be fondly remembered. My sincerest sympathy to his family.

Alora and Seneca: Unfortunately, I was unable to attend Mel's service yesterday. I chair our church's Leadership Council and we had a Day Away that had been scheduled months ago. Mel and I worked closely together for three years at STMS. Over the years, I worked with a number of assistant principals but none as multi-talented as Mel. Prior to my working with him, I suffered from being totally goal driven which caused tunnel vision. I was more obsessed with getting items checked off my "Do List" than interacting with those around me. Mel had the gift of being able to drop whatever he was doing at any given time, and give a student, teacher, parent or fellow administrator his 100% attention. He was a great active listener who would hear every word you say and then respond with a thought, idea, suggestion or complete honesty - "I hear exactly what you are saying and I don't know what to tell you to do about it!" Since retiring, we didn't see each other often but when we did, it was always so easy to pick right up where we had left things. Our last time together was at lunch last fall at the Harvest Seasonal Grill, and Linda Geesaman, Oz Anderson, Mel and I had a good time. I certainly became a better administrator during my last ten years after Mel "retired" from STSD. I am a better man for having known Mel. He was a good man. God Bless You as your mourn his death and navigate your lives now without him. Trust that you are not alone. Many are praying for you.

Mr Claytor was my middle school principal and i will always remember his energy and his passion for education. He made things fun at school and he always knew the latest dances. God bless his family during this difficult time. He will be missed
