Merrill D. Miller, Sr., 78, of Milton, went to be with our loving Lord on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg
He was born on June 15, 1934 in Milton and was the son of the late William C. and Emma (Cambell) Miller.
Merrill served during the Korean War from July 26, 1954 to June 5, 1956 as a PFC in the U.S. Army.
He married the former Shirley M. (Hauck) Miller on February 17, 1958 and they celebrated 32 years of marriage until her death on September 28, 1990.
Merrill worked for Shippers Car Line, a division of A.C.F. and retired in 1985 after 20 plus years, then went on to work for Brownies Gulf, all the while, working as a part time associate for The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service for over 40 years.
He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Milton, and was a member of the Milton Moose, Milton Legion Post 71, Montour Delong Fair Association, a life member of the Milton Volunteer Fire Department and Shimmer Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed Penn State football games and supporting the local Milton sporting teams, whether they were winning or loosing.
Merrill is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; William C. "Bill"and Annette I. Miller of Milton and Merrill D. "Bud" and Carol Miller, Jr. of Hummelstown, one daughter and son-in-law; Lucille A. "Lucy" and Scott H. Gessner of Mifflinburg, seven grandchildren; Chris, Ashley, Brant, Talayna and Karsch Miller, and Jeffery and Jamie Gessner, one great grandchild; Ian Miller and two sisters and one brother-in-law; Nancy and Joseph Nickey of Lewisberg and Joan Smith of York.
In addition to his parents and wife, Merrill was preceded in death by one brother; Bobby Miller and seven sisters; Mary Miller, Florence Miller, Betty Miller, Edna Morgan, Rachel Meseroski, Jean Pick and Louise Kriner.
A public viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front Street, Milton, PA 17847, and again from 10-11 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2013 at the funeral home, with Pastor John E. Lee officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Montour Delong Fair Association, ATN: Ruth Marr, 4 Roberts Lane, Danville, PA 17821.
Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
