It seems like it was just yesterday that we said goodbye. That’s the thing with time, it keeps moving but it’s not a reliable marker for old minds. I remember you like yesterday and I expect that will always be the way of it. The truth is we are closer to hanging out together again. Keep finding “Virgin Water”.
Peace and Love my brother

Pat was a wonderful person; smart, kind, generous and had a great sense of humor. I only knew him a few years, but learned a lot from him and admired him for his leadership in ICO.

Peace after a long struggle. That helps as we now struggle with loosing him. I grew up with Pat. He was the best friend a kid could have for exploring the world and surviving the close calls of youth. He never lost the spirit of adventure. Finding adventure was a driving force for him. It was completely natural to share this with others especially kids. He will be remembered by countless people who he introduced to nature in their formative years. As ALS took more and more of his physical ability he continued to look for adventure. After falling off his bicycle for the last time he took to a power wheelchair. He wore out 2 of these, the third one doesn't look too good now. Many people followed his daily trips on Strava. He drew patterns with the GPS through the streets of Harrisburg just to see if he could do it. He told me many times of praying the Rosary on these rides. He said these were special times of drawing closer to God. One day he showed me the perfectly drawn letters JESUS done over many blocks in Harrisburg. Even his faith had the element of adventure to it. His Faith and his deep abiding love for Ruenkaew and Tony truly sustained him through the debilitating effects ALS.
Thanks Pat for all you meant to us.
We will love you forever.
Paddle on brother.
Love Jake

What a Happy Day!

What a guy! When Stephen Hawking passed on recently, I immediately thought of Pat and asked friends how he was doing. I got his obituary in response. I'm speechless, other than offering my condolences to his family and friends.

God blessed us with our friend Pat. He touched many lives.
Pat inspired many to reach deeper, try harder..... laugh longer.
Pat influenced many old people but there are many more young people out there inspired by Pat's spirit now living in their souls.
Pat's faith in God comforted him.
Now Pat's young soul is in heaven.
Thank you, Ruenkaew and Tony for sharing Pat with us.

Pat was the best mentor an urban youth could ever have for learning about the outdoors. Through being a Big Brother and a Harrisburg ICO founder/leader since 1996, he inspired hundreds of kids with limited access to nature to experience the great outdoors. Pat knew everything about everything in nature and gave very generously of his time to share it. He took his son paddling on local creeks and rivers when he was still a babe in arms. He taught dozens of city youth how to paddle a canoe and compete in the Kipona. Pat was my friend for twenty two years and the most versatile, most knowledgeable, best person to ever have along on an ICO outing. Everyone who knew him loved him and his internal encyclopedia of nature. He was a once in a lifetime friend. May there be enough wild water and kids who want to learn all about frogs/snakes/trees/birds/rivers in the great beyond to keep him busy. Love and comfort to his loving wife and son in this time of sorrow.
