Vincent McNamara Obituary


Vincent T. McNamara, Sr., 94, a resident of Thornwald Manor, Carlisle, formerly of Williamstown, passed away Monday at Carlisle Regional Medical Center with his family at his side.
Born in Minersville, August 21, 1919, a son of the late Thomas V. and Rose Kavanaugh McNamara. Vince was a "Breaker Boy" in the Williamstown Colliery and later worked in the Williamstown Tunnel.
Vince was a graduate of the former Williamstown Catholic High School. He was a WWII Army Veteran of the Pacific Campaign and served with the 40th Infantry Division throughout the Philippines.
Vince retired as an Engineer and Fireman of the PRR, Conrail and Penn Central Railroads.
He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Williamstown; a post member of the Williamstown American Legion Post 239 and Williamstown V.F.W. Post 6497. He was a lifetime honorary member of the International Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was a former manager with the Williamstown Little League Baseball. He also belonged to the former Brookside Pigeon Racing Club.
He was a lifetime fan of his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish and New York Yankees teams.
First and always, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose greatest treasures and joy in life was his family.
Preceded in death by Sisters, Kathryn Tallon (Thomas); Rose Lenker (George); Mary Bettinger (Joseph); Patricia Kelly (John).
Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Frances I. Foster McNamara; his children, Frances McNamara Pazur (Ronald); Joanne McNamara Bowman, (Thomas); Dennis McNamara (Mary Lynn) and Vincent McNamara (Kathleen) 9 Grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren; one brother, Thomas McNamara (Theresa).
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, October 18th at 11:30 am from Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Williamstown with Rev. Paul Rothermel. Burial with Military Honors was held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Viewing was from 10:30-11:30 at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Williamstown American Legion, 123 W. Market St. Williamstown, PA 17098. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc. has been entrusted with the arrangements.
