My family wishes to send our condolences to the Thayer family. We just learned of his passing today.
My friendship with Dick began in 1953, when we were both young, unmarried, enlisted Marines. We did what young Marines were supposed to do!! We received our commissions' the same day. I always reminded Dick that I out ranked him since my service number was xxx186 and his was xxx187.
Dick introduced me to my wife, while he and I were going through Naval Flight Training in Pensacola. We lost track of each other for several years until I retired from the USMC and returned to Florida.
Dick was an honest, hardworking man who loved his country, family and friends. He never met a stranger. When health issues began their attack, he continued to greet you with a mile-wide grin and a bear hug. I never heard him complain and he lived life to its fullest.
Please advise me when the memorial service is scheduled.
Thanks Dick for your lifelong friendship. Semper Fi

It was honor to have known Dick. He was always there whenever you as him for help. As a past Commander of American Legion Post 340 he was always there to help me with anything I needed. He will be dearly missed by all.

My condolences to the family for the loss of your loved one and friend. May prayers strengthen you and memories comfort you. Persevere in prayer to the God of all comfort, for he will without fail show you favor at the sound of your outcry; as soon as he hears it he will actually answer you.
