Today, 9-11-2013, thousands of motorcyclist from around the country rode to Washington, DC., to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11. We were given individual names of the victims to place on our clothing as we made our ride through and around Washington. It was my honor to carry the name of Peter Hachem.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hashem when I was a security receptionist at, Teradyne back in 2000 in, San Jose California. He was a kind person who always spoke when He walked into the building. He always had a smile on his face. I did not know Him personally but would see Him there at, work from time to time... I was sad when I learned that He perished in that plane crash. All I could think about was His Wife and Children and how selfish the terrorist were to take so many innocent lives. Rest in peace Mr. Peter Hashem

To the Hashem family,

I knew Peter in college, and only learned of his tragic death a few years ago from a mutal friend and old classmate. I was devastated, and still feel pain whenever I think of the very gifted, intelligent, warm and caring friend and brother of my college years. As a Greek-American from New Jersey who had spent her highschool years in Greece and had just returned to the US for college, I found in Peter a briend who understood what it was to be the product of two cultures that many times could not be understood by others. We had long, incredible converstations on the differences and so many similarities between the Greek and Lebanese cultures and cuisines, and he never forgot his "sister" when the "care packages" arrived from his beloved Mom.

I have wanted to write to you so many times these past few years, but I just couldn't find the words that would offer solace to you.

This year, on the 9th anniversary of the terrible loss of Peter, the realisation has come that it is not solace that I have to offer, but simply to share a fond memory of a special person that will always have a place in my heart and thoughts and a friend that I speak to my own sons about with pride and love.

I deeply regret having lost touch with Peter after moving back to Greece so many years ago. I regret not having the opportunity for my children and his children to meet and become friends.

I want you to know, however, that his memory is kept alive in this small, beautiful country called Greece that has also suffered many wounds from terrorism, though not on such a horrendous scale as 9/11. My lovely teenage boys and I always light a candle in Peter's memory on this sad anniversary.

To Peter's wife and sons: May you always be well, keeping his memory alive and strong, and may you live a full and happy life as a tribute to him.
