ALFONSE PICCOLA Obituary

PICCOLA
ALFONSE JOSEPH , D.O.
Born 82 years ago in Philadel-phia to Catherine (Mosero) and Raymond Piccolo, left his earthly ties on Saturday, September 2, 2017 in Fort Myers, Fl. He was graduated from St. Joseph's College and then Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1961. His internship was at South Bend Osteopathic Hospital, South Bend, Indiana. A.J., Al, or "Doc" was the third Osteopathic Physician to serve Fort Myers arriving in 1971 to escape the snowbound winters, with his family, wife Judie, children Ray (deceased), Sherese Mowry (Michael) of Ft.Myers, David of Yakima, and their dog. There is always a dog....or two...or more.
Al was instrumental along with 7 fellow D.O.'s in obtaining the Certificate of Need for Doctor's Osteopathic Hospital in 1982. You know it as Gulf Coast Hospital. Al was also the first D.O. to serve at the Migrant Health Center, hired by Lalai Hamric in the mid 1970's. He was a staff physician at Lee Memorial Hospital for nearly 20 years. He was with Physician's Medical Group until he was medically compromised in August 2016. "Doc" was Board Certified in Family Practice and Geriatrics. He was a compassionate, empathetic, exceptional physician dedicated to his patients for over 40 years. When his position at Lee Memorial ended, numerous letters from his patients attested to his care of them or their families. He appreciated every one of them.
Al also is survived by brothers Raymond (Nadine), Robert (Maggie), and Edward (Betty) all of whom reside in the frozen north of New Jersey or Pennsyl-vania. He is grandad to Arielle Smith, Lauren Piccolo, Paytn Mowry and Cailyn Mowry.
There will be no Service. Should anyone wish to pay respects, a quiet prayer in his name would be appreciated. We thank Hope Hospice Lehigh for the kind care in his last five days. Should you wish a memorial donation in his name, he was integral part of S.P.A.Y.-L.E.E. animal rescue since 1993 (P.O.Box 61335, Ft. Myers Fl 33906) and when physically able was active in Men's Ministry at First Assembly Church, (4701 Summerlin Rd, Fort Myers 33919). Or a memorial donation can be made to Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Scholar-ship Fund, (4179 City Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa. 19131). Arrs. AFFORDABLE CREMATIONS

Some people come into this world to do great things, Dr. Piccola was one of these people. His compassion towards his patients was genuine. I will post every year on his page as his memory will be with me always. Thinking of his loving family as I know they miss him terribly.

Dr. Piccola was my family doctor for so many years.
I just learned of his passing today, April 28, 2018. When our family moved away from Ft. Myers we of course had to search for another doctor. To this day we have not found one to begin to compare.
My youngest son seriously cut his toe when he was 4. Dr. "P" - as we referred to him - stitched it. Mike was so scared but Dr P put him at ease, treated him and Mike turned to me, smiled and said "Dr. P has soft hands". Gentlenesss is what he was trying to express. Dr. Piccola took time to know his patients and treated their hearts as well as their physical needs. We refer to his advice from all those years ago even today. Those of his patients who love the Lord will see him again one day.
Thanks to his family for sharing him with those who needed his help. God speed Dr. P and thanks for all you did.

My grandmother was one of Doc's first patients in private practice in Dean Park downtown. He took care of everyone in our family for decades. I remember him making a housecall on a Sunday when my grandma had a stroke, he had been out fishing. Such compassion and passion came easily for him. Dr Piccola was definitely a cut above the rest. Condolences to the family.

A.J. and I knew each other since medical school. We came together in Fort Myers through an odd set of circumstances. He became a driving force in Osteopathic medical affairs and brought me along with him. He was instrumental in the founding of our local medical society, obtaining hospital privilege for D.O's,establishing Gulf Cost Hospital and always being out front for our profession. Al was very loyal to his friends and most attached to the members of his family. He and Judy were very active in our community. I had the pleasure of sharing fine and memorable adventures with Al. Rest in peace old friend and colleague. We offer our deepest sympathy to Judy and the children.

Where do I begin to say how much this man meant to me and my family? He found me working as a monitor tech at Ft. Myers Community Hospital and offered me the job that changed my career and ultimately my life. He taught me more than any degree I currently hold and help my family in more ways than one. God bless you and those you left behind. Love to all

Al was the kindest man with a big heart, a wonderful sense of humor that made me think twice if he were joking or serious, then I'd break out laughing when I knew he was joking. He had the biggest twinkle in his eye.

Al and his wife Jude generously aided many people who needed help.

I'll always remember the last months visitng Al and Jude's home how Al loved feeding snacks to their 3 family dogs and he'd often have little Rio snuggling on his lap.

Al's passing leaves us one less earthbound angel, but his spirit is now free to do his good work from up above. God bless you, Al. Thank you for all your kindness and laughter.

I am so sorry for the loss of this awesome man. He was my doctor for 20 yrs. The BEST doctor that I've ever known. I have been in Illinois since April and just now searched the obits - and I am the one who brought deviled eggs to the Ft. Myers home when he and Judy lost their beloved son. Please know that Dr. Piccola will always be in my heart. I really loved this man because he REALLY cared about people - and animals. He is with God right now for sure.

To my Big Big Brother I will miss you so much!!

You were always there for me no mater what the situation was in my life.

I will always remember you as the most kin and loving person who would do anything to help anyone.

It is so hard for me to believe your not with us anymore. I will always remember the good times we had at 824 n 64th Street, you playing the Saxophone, listening to the soundtrack of "My Fair Lady and Oklahoma" you made me appreciate all kinds of music.

I always remember when you bought your fist new car. The funniest thing ever was seeing your 6'5" frame getting out that small Volkswagen Karma Gia Convertible.

So many things that made me Happy and now so sad.

I love you say hello to Mom and Dad and especially tell Raymond that his favorite Uncle Thinks about him all the time.

Love your brother Ed AKA "The Milkmans Son"
