I have very distinct memories of my Monday morning interviews with Dana when I was SID and had to prepare a weekly press release during football season. His sense of fun and always "right on" perspective concerning the place and importance of sports at Haverford was a breath of fresh air. He took his job seriously but never took himself as seriously. One time when I came in before the Muhlenberg game, he started off by giving me the headline: Fords to kick Mules (as usual, we became the kickees). Another time, after a particularly bleak loss, his opening line was, "Ok , let's expound on the obvious." But Dana was just as self deprecating after a win, giving all of the credit to his players and their effort. He was a real class act; I never heard him bad mouth a coach or a player regardless of their results, and always maintained a positive outlook for those outside the team. He was just the right leader for the Department at that time.
