I know this comes very late but today I received a copy of Dante's Inferno for my 79th birthday. In 1957 Mrs Labrasca, my beloved English teacher at South Philadelphia High School, gave me a copy of the Ciardi translation of the Inferno and she spent many after-school afternoons helping me see into this magnificent poem. Mrs Labrasca's spirit has been with me since that day so many years ago. I loved her. Irv Soloway

As I was storing Christmas decorations away and putting the everyday knick knacks back in their places, I realized something. My husband Leo, Gilda's brother, collected ceramic hippos. Because of our several moves after he died, I let some of them go. I realized that the ones I kept were the ones that Vince and Gilda gave him. This brought to mind the year that Gilda carried a leather hippo, about the size of a one year old child, on the plane - not wrapped, just 'there'. That hippo took it's place in family rooms where ever we moved. Our grandchildren played with it, 'taught' it, read to it - -- -From the first time we met in the late 60's, Vince and Gilda accepted me and my 3 children as family. Vince and Leo died the same year and that made our bond stronger. I've missed our phone calls this past year, but Howard recorded Gilda reciting her favorite Shakespeare quote. I can listen to it whenever I want to hear her voice. Thank you Marc, Mary and Cathy for taking such good care of Aunt Gilda these many years.
Our love to you all,
Rita Venice & Paula Roethler
