To the James Juliana Family,
I was deeply saddened to read in the Washington Post of Mr. Juliana's passing...the more so because the facts of his career in the Post account told the story of an outstanding leader who served his country with distinction. I recall fondly in 1981, when he was Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for MRA&L at the Pentagon and I worked for him. He approved my vision to develop the first Department of Defense (DOD) Disability Employment Program and request to hire the first DOD GS-15 Disability Employment Program Manager. Due to his leadership, this program has expanded the circle of inclusion for thousands of individuals with disabilities in DOD, including wounded warriors. Mr. Juliana was an unsung champion for people with disabilities. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May your hearts be filled with peace and wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
Very Respectfully, Claiborne Haughton, Former Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Equal Opportunity

To Jim's family, I am so sorry for your loss. He was an amazing man who lived an amazing life. I will miss our conversations as he never talked down to me nor made me feel less than equal. I will miss him dearly.

Jim Juliana was an outstanding public servant and advocate of providing stellar support to our military throughout his long, distinguished career. I have known him through my position with the Defense Commissary Agency and thoroughly enjoyed working with him over the years. He was steadfast, loyal, and the epitome of a true gentleman and business partner in every way. I am already missing him but feel honored to have known and worked with him. He will be one of those remarkable people that will never be forgotten but always remembered in the most positive and heartfelt way.
