PAULINE SCHULTZ Obituary

SCHULTZ

PAULINE MARIA, D.O. (nee Delia), the devoted wife of Harry J. Schultz, Jr. and dedicated mother of Paul H. Schultz and Jason H. Schultz, as well as the late Daniel, Paula and John Schultz, died on Monday, October 3rd, 2016 at 9:50 P.M. at Virtua Hospital, Mount Holly, NJ. She was 76 years old.
Born into a medical family in Philadelphia, PA in 1940, she was the daughter of the late Anthony V. Delia, M.D. and Wanda Malopolski Delia of the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia, where she was raised and attended elementary school. She had one younger brother, Anthony Donato Delia.
She went on to graduate from St. Mary's Academy in 1957, where she played basketball, as well as the University of Pennsylvania in 1961, where she earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry.
She was one of the first women to be accepted into the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), where she was the only woman in a class of 100 students. She earned her Doctor of Osteo-pathic Medicine (DO) degree in 1965. She began her career practicing medicine with her father from their home-office at 2820 E. Edgemont Street in Port Richmond. Dr. Schultz went on to expand her medical career by accepting positions as an Emergency Room Physician or House Physician in several hospitals throughout the Delaware Valley, including Zurbrugg Memorial Hospital in Riverside, NJ, where she worked for over 20 years. She later returned to private practice, working at family practices in Florence and Princeton, NJ.
Pauline's greatest joy was her family. When she was 16, she met her husband, best friend and soulmate, Harry, while vacationing with her family down the shore in Wildwood, NJ. Their relationship blossomed into a marriage of 52 years. As they welcomed children into their life, Pauline became a devoted and loving mother while balancing a successful medical career. She never missed one of Paul or Jason's soccer games, school plays or other activities. Pauline served on the PTA for her sons' grade school, St. Casmir's, in Riverside, NJ, for several years. Pauline was a long-time resident and fixture in the Delran, NJ community. She was active in her church and served as a Eucharistic Minister at Resurrection Parish for several years.
Pauline enjoyed spending time with family and friends, telling a story or enjoying a laugh, especially during the holidays. She had an outgoing personality and a passion for life which endeared her to everyone she met and made her many friends. Her house would always be full with her sons' friends and she treated everyone as if they were part of her family. She loved watching the Philadelphia Eagles and her favorite television shows.
A Viewing will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday evening, Oct. 10th at SNOVER GIVNISH FUNERAL HOME, 1200 Route 130 North, Cinnaminson, NJ (856-829-8000). There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 11th at Resurrection Parish, Church of the Holy Name, 260 Conrow Road, Delran, NJ (856-461-6566). Relatives and friends will be offered a final viewing at 10:00 A.M. at the church before Mass. Final resting place will be Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.
Dr. Schultz is survived by her husband, Harry J. Schultz, Jr. of Riverside, NJ as well as two sons, Paul H. Schultz and his wife Gracielle Schultz of Delran, New Jersey and Jason H. Schultz and his partner Christine Green of Riverside, NJ; five grandchildren: Tamia Langford 16, Brandon Schultz 13, twins Asiana and Jayden Green 9 months old, and Daniel Thomas Schultz 7 months old. My sympathy to the Shultz family. I knew Pauline in medical school when she was the only women in our class. Even though we have not had contact for many years, I remember her fondly.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Schultz Family at this difficult time. Please find peace in knowing that God understands your grief and that he cares.1 Peter 5:6,7

Dr. Shultz was one of the pioneers of our medical community. I remember fondly her stories of being the single female in her class of 100 students doctors. She had an profound effect on my career path into medicine, and wrote one of my recommendations for medical school. She was one of the first people to " welcome me into the club" A special lady, a vibrant soul, a loving physician, a pioneer.
