Emanuel Steward

Obituary

DETROIT (AP) - Emanuel Steward, the owner of the legendary Kronk Gym and one of boxing's greatest trainers, has died. He was 68.

Victoria Kirton, Steward's executive assistant, says Steward died Thursday in a Chicago hospital. She did not disclose the cause of death.

The International Boxing Hall of Famer made his name training Thomas Hearns at the Kronk Gym in Detroit. That paved the way for Steward to work with a long line of champion boxers such as champion Lennox Lewis, during a big part of his title run, and current heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko as recently as July.

Steward owned the legendary Kronk Gym, where his fighters were clad in red and gold trunks, and worked as an analyst for HBO.

Not sure what to say?

Rest In Peace, my friend.

"THE GREATEST BOXING TRAINER EVER" always displayed class, dignity and humbleness......AS A FAN I MISS YOU...RIP

May you rest in peace and may you allways be remembered as an excellent trainer and commentor

The last time I saw my friend was when I came home for my Step Dads funeral and he was there to comfort me, I often think about the times we had while we were training together as kids, he was a Great friend, who went on to be a Great Man, we will truly miss you Manny.

I am not a fan of boxing. I knew Emanuel as a friend. He came into my life when I needed a friend 18 years ago. He was a great father figure to my two sons. We talked just about everyday. We had many nights having dinner, talking, singing, dancing and laughing. I will miss by best friend.

Thanks emanuel for every time u turned a young teen life around

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

you will never leave us...thanks manny...
