Dear Mrs. Carter,

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

As former principal of Lincoln Elementary, certainly taking this time to remember the wonderful support Mr. Carter gave to the Riviera Beach Community. He touched the lives of so many children in a special way.

Dear Mrs. Carter and the Carter Family,

We had the honor of being able to attend the beautiful Memorial Service at the Christ Fellowship Church in Palm Beach Gardens for Gary Carter on Friday, February 24, 2012.

It was a most memorable night and one that we will always cherish since we both loved and admired Gary Carter as the New York Mets catcher and as a remarkable man. He truly was a very gentle man and a very wonderful gentleman.

It was so very inspirational for us to attend this very special tribute to honor him and his life. It was so wonderful for us to hear all the guest speakers tell so lovingly and so beautifully about the very kind and special person that he was both on and off the baseball field.

We are both New York Mets fans and Gary was one of our most favorite players on the Mets and in all of baseball. We were so very happy when he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Hal worked for the Commissioner of Baseball when Gary was with the Mets and enjoyed working with him on many promotions for Major League Baseball. He always found Gary him to be most cooperative, very enthusiastic and a genuinely nice person to promote the game of baseball.

While it is so sad that he has died so young, we must thank God that he has lived and touched the lives of so many people with his marvelous and amazing talent as a ballplayer and as a very loving, kind and gracious human being.

Gary will live in our hearts as well as in the hearts of the thousands of people from around the world whose lives he touched with his goodness.

We send God's blessings to all the Carter Family and we will continue to keep you all in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this most difficult time. To know Gary was to love him – and we truly did.

Sincerely,

Gary graced us in Houston in 1994 as our guest to play in the Sunshine Kids golf tournament to raise funds for the kids. After our first round we decided to go to dinner at a local restaurant and were there for about 2 hours during which time Gary never stopped signing autographs for kids who came up to him beaming with smiles of meeting this great person. He never finished his dinner and I apologized for that. But Gary said - "oh I was fed ok - just watching those kids smiles was nourishment enough for me." he is truly a man of class, a talented athlete and a caring person for all those around him. He will be missed.

I may have retired to NC but The Gary Carter Foundation supporting Reading Counts has always been the highlight of career. Thanks for being a true hero to the students, staff and families at Forest Park and West Riviera. You brought hope not only to the kids but to the teachers. You made a difference and will be truly missed.
