Goodrich, Arthur Dole "Bud" December 20, 1919 November 28, 2014. Bud is survived by his sister, Polly O'Brien, and her children, Sandy (Judy), Craig (Maureen), Elizabeth (Olav); nephews, Steve and John (Judith) Goodrich - sons of his brother, Andy; and 10 great-nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by twin brother and best friend, Chuck; brother, Andy; parents, Alonzo Charles and Pauline Dole; and nephew, Elessar. Bud went to North Shore Country Day School and the Asheville School where his coach named him the Best 1st Baseman of the Decade. Bud and Chuck served their country for 4 years in World War II, Chuck having been drafted and Bud getting special dispensation to enlist to serve together. After landing at Utah Beach (two weeks after D-Day), they served in General George Patton's 3rd Army, 5th Infantry, 50th Field Artillery until the war's end. Bud's favorite baseball game was the 1945 World Series at Wrigley Field when the Cubs lost to Detroit. Their mother told the twins to wear their Army uniforms to Wrigley Field because she could not get tickets. A well-dressed couple, impressed with their uniforms, gave them two free tickets - box seats behind third base! "Thank you mother." Bud was an accomplished Haiku writer with most of his subjects being sports and family. A lover of Gilbert & Sullivan, he and Chuck would more than occasionally burst into spirited song to entertain those in their presence. In his last months, still combining the arts and sports, Bud's rendition of the Notre Dame Fight Song was the unofficial grace before meals at his retirement home. Family and friends will remember Bud and Chuck as kind, fun, humble and generous men who will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church, 784 Sheridan Rd., Winnetka, IL 60093. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charity of your choice.
