Gloria Walker Obituary

Walker, Gloria M. 89, lifelong resident of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully May 31, 2014. After graduating from Hyde Park High School and studying pre-med at Northwestern University, Gloria went on to enjoy a long career as Administrative Assistant to the Director of Social Services at University of Chicago Hospital and to also work at the American School. Beloved and devoted mother of Karen (Rev. Richard Mosley Jr.) Walker J.D. and the late Gregory Walker; dear sister-in-law and friend of Helen C. Haynes. Preceded in death by parents, William Harrison Haynes J.D. (one of the first African-American graduates of University of Chicago School of Law) and Antoinette Haynes (nee Meaux); and two brothers, William and David Haynes. A July memorial service is being planned at Hemenway United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to PAWS, www.pawschicago.org or "Imagine No Malaria" c/o Hemenway United Methodist Church, 933 Chicago Ave, Evanston, IL 60202.
