Wow...I'll never forget in the early 1990s when my brother's best friend in high school, Mike, was battling Hodgkin's lymphoma, I would get photos signed by celebrities to cheer him up. So I contacted the 49ers to get an autographed photo of Joe Montana. When I picked it up from my friend, he said, "And I have one from RC Owens too (he was working for the 49ers then)." In my ignorance, I showed no response, but said thank you. So that night I bring the photos to Mike, thinking he would be blown away by the Joe Montana photo, and I said, "Oh, and I have one of RC Owens too, Alley Oop or something like that???" Mike couldn't believe it. He was SO excited because he knew what that photo meant. So did my brother and they both kind of laughed at me and said "What's wrong with you? He's legendary in football!" And then I did some research! That photo, the extra gesture by Mr. Owens when he heard about what I was doing for Mike, meant so much to Mike. What a class act.

I had the pleasure of meeting RC in May of 1988 while attending my first year at Sierra College and working in the athletic dept. He was waiting to interview someone to hire for training camp, but she was late so he interviewed me. He hired me on the spot and I spent the next four summers working for the greatest football organization there is, the S.F. 49ers. I still have the letter of recommendation he wrote me and I will cherish it forever. He was a great man that even today my sister and I still talk about and have a few good laughs. My thoughts are with his family through this most terrible time. I'll never forget the summers I spent working with one of the greatest!!! Thank you, RC, for the memories I'll always cherish.
