Edtelle, I just learned that Gene is at the same cemetery as Bernie !!
The staff of American Cancer Fund™ at www.AmericanCancerFund.org is sorry to hear of Eugene's passing. We have received memorial contributions in his name and our sincere condolences go out to his family.
It is with great sorrow that my family and I mark the passing of an old friend and industry leader. His persona so filled a room that it was a pleasure to be in his company. I remember taking several meetings with him and my father Arthur, at Arlen. I was lucky enough to be able to sit in on planning and strategy meetings as a very young man. Gene was a true visionary. His genius will be missed, but more importantly, his charm and wit. My family extends our sincerest condolences to his family on his passing. Treasure the memories. He will live on through those that knew and loved him. Tom Levien
Eugene Ferkauf is my Grandfather. I am also his youngest grandson. He taught me a lot of things to be successful and overcome my learning disablities.
So many childhood memories of our families in Jamaica Estates. Life changed in many ways but Eugene was there for my father. I will always remember your family fondly and with appreciation. I send my condolences and love at this time. My parents were Pesa and Allen Post.

I am so sorry to the family for the loss of your loved one. His stores truly benefitted a lot of families. I lived near one in Detroit on Grand River, Plymouth rd. area. Next to our Assembly Hall, where we would run in to get extra we needed for the next days sessions. At least twice a year our parents would surprise with a trunk loaded with toys. Mr. Ferkauf had special mightiness those he lived. Take care all,Psalm 90: 10.
Detroit had Korvette stores, too. I got my train set from one
Dear Estelle and family, How to express the sadness in words; except now you have your own special angel watching over you. This was a comfort when I lost my folks.
This poem is a favorite of mine:
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow.
I am diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am gentle autumnal rain.
When you waken in the morning hush,
I am the soft uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die.
I am sure that Bernie and Gene will enjoy each other again.
Do you realize I worked at Korvette from 1953 till I was married in 1960. Such tender years when I learned about work and business for the rest of my life.
George and I extend our deep condolences, and pray full thoughts,
Love,
Karen

AS a kid i shopped at the store in westview:baltimore maryland. R.I.P.
The Korvette store in Audubon, NJ provided me with my Brownie & Girl Scout uniforms and accessories in the 60's, my makeup, clothing & Osmonds & Partridge Family albums in my "teen" 70's, and a once in a lifetime "teen dream" opportunity to meet the "Brady Bunch", when they appeared there in 1973. The store was truly an asset to that area at a time when Big Box stores were non-existent. We were sad when it closed, but the "family-friendly" memories created there will last a lifetime!
He was a great person. He will be greatly missed. All our love to the family.

MY MOM WORKED IN YOUR STORE IN HARTFORD, CT. WHEN SHE WAS A TEENAGER ~ MAY YOU SLEEP IN HEAVENLY PEACE MR. FERKAUF ~
I really enjoyed your concepts of shopping & you made it fun & inexpensive. You had the best record department around Chicago in the 60's.
Thanks for letting a teen buy then.

My sister and I split our money and bought our first record at Korvettes.
It was Herman's Hermits. I think I still have it.
