PEORIA - Evelyn Lorraine Schuller, 88, of Peoria passed away on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Liberty Village in Peoria.
She had been a resident of Peoria for all of her 88 years.
She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She devoted her life to caring for her family and friends, and she always enjoyed their activities and celebrations. Her 1944 Manual yearbook said, "Her calm disposition is something most people must work for, but not so Lorraine." This was true of Lorraine not just in high school, but throughout her life.
Lorraine was born in Peoria, Ill., on Sept. 19, 1925. She had 14 sisters and brothers, Phyllis (Jack) Wenzel, Pearl (Blaine) Spencer, Elizabeth (Harry) Davis, Clara (Gene) Jansen, Eva (Ray) Voss, Edna (Ray) Knight, Dorothy Brown, Treva Boland, Irene Cannon, William (Emma) Cannon, Glen (Eileen) Cannon, John Cannon, Willard (Olive) Cannon and Frank (Ada) Cannon. The large Cannon family lived on the West Bluff and most, including Lorraine, graduated from Manual High School. The Cannons were a close-knit family, gathering frequently at one another's homes for family reunions and Christmas celebrations. All of Lorraine's brothers and sisters and her parents, Frank and Fannie Cannon, preceded her in death.
On March 23, 1946, Lorraine married Robert H. (Bob) White. They settled down on Arago Street in Peoria, along with their three children, Richard, Carol and Danny. "Grandpa White," (Bob's father, Rome), an avid gardener, also lived with them. Lorraine and Bob, along with all of their family, spent summer weekends at "The Cabin," their cottage at Lake Chautauqua. While living on the South Side, Lorraine was also active at Grace United Methodist Church and in the Garfield Mother's Club. Robert passed away on Jan. 9, 1967.
The next period of Lorraine's life began when she married Orville Schuller on June 20, 1970. Upon marrying Orville, she immediately became a parent to his four children, Judy, Greg, Melissa and Steve. During this time of her life, Lorraine enjoyed watching Orville make his many creations, including duck carvings, a fountain in the backyard and the cement palm tree, which stood for years in front of their home on Loucks. Orville passed away on Feb. 12, 2003.
Over time, Lorraine's family expanded to include her children's spouses, Billie White, Bob Masek, Georgette White, Brian Zimmer, Don Hammontree and Darlene Schuller. Her grandchildren include Amy McDermott, Rich White, Heidi, Rob and Holly Masek, Brendan and Alison Schuller, Jennifer Hammontree Jones, Melinda Reeter, Donnie Hammontree and Nathan White. She also has many great-grandchildren.
For the last six years, Lorraine had lived at Liberty Village in Peoria. When she was able, she enjoyed birthday parties, music with friends at Liberty Village and family reunions on the Illinois River.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, 2021 N. University St., Peoria. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery.
