Phoebe Louise Dooley
BARTONVILLE - Phoebe Louise Dooley, the 6-year old Lion Queen, of Gainesville, Florida, granddaughter of Bartonville residents, gained her angel wings on Sunday, August 5, 2018, marking the end of her 29-month fight with brain cancer. She was at home, surrounded by love.
Phoebe was born on July 14, 2012, in Gainesville to Drs. Cole and Sarah (Hamlin) Dooley. The name "Phoebe" was chosen for its meaning, "radiant light." She was born with congenital heart disease, but after open heart surgery, she grew into a thriving, spunky and vibrant little girl. She was passionate about animals and had an extensive and exotic collection of stuffed animals, affectionately referred to as "lovies." Her first "lovie" and constant companion was Lambie; you never saw one without the other. Her favorite playmate was her dog, Maggie. She was extremely imaginative, wildly funny and crafted stories like no other. She had a self-described love for "bad boys" and is survived by her husbands, Tiko, Benny the Bull, Swiper, Scar, Mufasa, Ryder and Kwazi. Phoebe loved all things pink and managed to cram a lifetime of adventures into her 6 short years. She met all of her favorite princesses and had multiple trips to the beach, but her most favorite activity of all was to play at home with family and friends.
Phoebe is survived by her parents of Gainesville; her Grampy and Grammy, Tom and Kathy Hamlin of Evansville, IN; her Grandpa John and Grandma Kim Dooley of Bartonville, IL; her Aunt Jen and Uncle Mike and cousins, Sophie and Amelia Xanders of Indianapolis, IN; Uncle Nathan and Aunt Sarah Beth and cousins, Morgan, Max and Luke Hamlin of Newburgh, IN; Uncle PJ and Aunt Ashley Martin of Tampa, FL; and her Naughty Uncle Wade Dooley of Queens, NY.
She was preceded in death by her Aunt Kelly Hamlin of Evansville, IN.
Her life was short, but her impact has been far-reaching, touching the lives of so many. Courageously and selflessly, her brain tumor was donated to researchers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and a foundation has been established in her name.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gainesville, with recitation of the rosary at 5 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018, for one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral Mass, with Fr. Alberto Esposito as celebrant. Colorful clothing is encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Phoebe Louise Dooley Foundation at phoebelouisedooley.org or 14260 W. Newberry Road #196, Newberry, FL 32669.
