PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Frank DiPaolo (dih-POW'-loh), a political mentor to former U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy, has died. He was 106.
Kennedy says DiPaolo died Thursday in hospice care.
He called DiPaolo a remarkable person who lived every moment of his 106 years to its fullest.
DiPaolo was involved in politics for 85 years. His first campaign was Al Smith's 1928 run for president, and he made campaign appearances last fall for Rep. David Cicilline (sihs-ihl-EE'-nee).
He was a fixture in Providence's Mount Hope neighborhood, where he ran the Castle Spa restaurant for 40 years.
When Kennedy ran for General Assembly while a student at Providence College in 1988, DiPaolo knocked on all the doors in the district with him and helped defuse criticism that Kennedy, son of Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy, was a carpetbagger.

My condolences to the DiPaolo Family.
I remember Frank and Phil from when I was a child. They had the best pasta n bean soup and the ultimate ham sandwich (I still see them near the window cutting the ham).
May he RIP.
