William J. "Bill" Welte
METAMORA — William J. "Bill" Welte, 77, of Metamora, IL passed away at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at his residence. He was born on October 19, 1940, in Peoria, IL to Ray and Mary (Thiel) Welte. He married Joanne K. "Jo" Gangloff on November 28, 1964, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora, IL.
Surviving are his wife Jo of Metamora; siblings Joanne Scrivner of Metamora, James (Peg) Welte of Amherst, OH, Richard (Ruth) Welte of Princeton, IL, and Mary Jo (Bill) Grebner of Metamora; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was deeply loved by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Kathy Welte, and brother-in-law Donald Scrivner.
Bill was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He worked as an expediter for Contech Construction Products, Inc., retiring in 2002. Bill was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Past Commander and life-time member of the American Legion Post 89 in Metamora and a Third Degree Knights of Columbus Lady of Sorrows 3060. He also volunteered for the Metamora Fire Department for 19 years. Bill enjoyed fishing, traveling, golfing with classmates, and old cars. He was a Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed attending the Metamora football games and sharing stories with family and friends.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 1, 2018, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora with Father Vien Van Do officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until time of his service on Monday at the church. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 89 prior to a luncheon at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in rural Metamora. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Mary's School, 415 W. Chatham St., Metamora, IL 61548, or Illinois Cancer Care, 8940 N. Wood Sage Road, Peoria, IL 61615. My deepest sympathy for the passing of Bill.
The few times I had the opportunity to be with Bill I knew him as a fun loving and sincere person. Someone who was in love with life.

Joanne so sorry about Billy Jo .I pray he did not suffer. I will be praying for God to help you through these rough days ahead . I Remember him as a wonderful fun guy. He will surely be missed by all his friends and family. God bless you and Joanne.

I am so sorry to hear this. I worked with Bill at Flynn Drainage and Contech. He made me laugh everyday. He was a great guy. Thinking about you all in this difficult time.
