First met George at a boy scout camp on an Auburndale lake, in the early 50s. I was new to the scout business and he was one of the counselors, he taught me to tie knots, etc. He was a great role model. Later, in the mid-50s, as a teenager, a relative got me an interview as a tour guide on the electric boats at Cypress Gardens. My job was to work weekends so other guys could be at home with their families, taking them to church and things like that. I learned all about the plants and flowers at Cypress Ganders from George. I never aspired to be a waterskier like George's brother "Wild Bill" Hatfield. I wanted to be the best electric boat tour guide like George Hatfield.
And I did it! He will lead me again when we meet again "over the bar."
