I've just today found out about Margaret's passing on. I met Margaret many years ago, when my family and I lived in Appleton, Wisconsin, and I joined the Appleton chapter of SHHH. I remember Margaret telling me the story of how she and Gar met. It was on a train, and Margaret said she sat on Gar's hat by mistake, and Gar became annoyed and said, "You're sitting on my hat!" That's what she told me, about how they met.

Later, when my family and I moved to Maine, and I attended Bowdoin College, Margaret came to visit me there. It was a wonderful visit, and Gar's two sisters visited with me there too, whom I met through Margaret.

While still living in Appleton, I also wrote a chapter in Margaret's book, "Bright Silence."

Margaret will be very much missed, not only by me but by many others. My deep condolences to Margaret's family.

She was an awesome lady. I am sorry to hear her death but she is in a better place now. She had done a lot for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for many years.

I am so very deeply saddened to hear of this news. Mrs. Margaret Ferris had such a great impact on me and my life, and I owe it all to her. She was my teacher during my preschool years, at ages 3 and 4. She taught me to speak and read lips, among other things, and for that I am forever grateful. She helped shape me into the person I am today. May she rest in peace.
