Vosters, Raymond M.
Raymond M. Vosters, Town of Vandenbroek, 95, died Friday January 4, 2013. He was born in Freedom on February 6, 1917 to the late Joseph and Anna (Diedrich) Vosters. Ray married Catherine Green, the love of his life, at St. Nicholas Parish in Freedom on November 20,1941. He farmed in the Town of Vandenbroek, was a volunteer fireman from 1957-1972, served on the election board for many years, won outstanding farmer award in 1968 and was a field supervisor at the ASCS 1959-1968. He was also the director of the Ebben School Board.
Dad was the patriarch of our large family and relished that role. His biggest joy in life was the family gatherings with all the laughter and many sheepshead card games. At 90 he won fifth place in a sheepshead tournament participating with his sons.
After retirement he enjoyed auctions, antiquing and woodworking. He restored beautiful buggies, carriages, cutters, and sleighs.
He often talked about the 4F's in his life, which were faith, family, farm and friends. In his own words "He loved his family, land, antiques and woodworking." In asking him for a pearl of wisdom gleaned from a lifetime of living, he replied "appreciate the change of seasons." He was a man of the land, and even when describing his later years said "it's nature's way."
He had a great sense of humor and always had a prank in the making. Thank you for that, Dad.
Dad, the way you lived your life should remind us all that love, loyalty, devotion, courage, patience, good humor and honesty are the qualifications of good character and the definition of a life well lived. We will love you forever.

I have a lot of fond memories of visiting your house. Halloween still holds a special place in my heart, ringing the door bell while Catherine will hand out treats and Ray played the trick on us!

Our condolences to the Vosters family. Ray was the type of man, that once you met him, you would never forget him. Enjoyed being around him. Wish we could be there, but we're both fighting the flu. Love and prayers.
