I would like to express my sympathy to the Jewish community. I follow the Protestant religion and I'm grateful for the Old Testament. It is the foundation for my faith. I am so very sad about the passing of Cecil and David by someone who should not have had the pleasure of living in the same world as them. I, too, lost a son with special needs many years ago so I identify and grieve with their family and friends. Albeit the circumstances were vastly different, I cry everytime I read about these two incredible human beings. I wish I could have had the pleasure of meeting them. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Rosenthal family at this very, very difficult time. May the memory of them be a blessing. RIP.

I knew Cecil at Camp Cornplanter. I spent 7 summers working there. He was a popular denizen of Camp, and is remembered by many people who worked there. We are all stunned and saddened by his death. I said kadish for Cecil at the memorial service in Tallahassee to honor his memory. My heart goes out to you for this tragic loss of a wonderful human being. My sister was also a camper at Camp Cornplanter.

May Cecil and David's memory be a blessing to their friends and families.I remember them well since they were participants in the Greenfield Recreation Program. Time has pased by, they have always had great souls. I remember Cecil would be one of the first to take a musical percussion instrument to play as loud as he could.

The news traveled fast to me in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Rosenthal Brothers had a great affect on many people.

October 30, 2018

Dear Joy, Eli, Diane, Michele & Family,
Words seem inadequate to convey how deeply sorry I am for the loss of Cecil and David. I have many fond memories of them in your home during playdates and sleepovers growing up. I would often see Cecil walking in Squirrel Hill when I came in to visit my family and he was always smiling and waved to everyone he came in contact with. I have never met a warmer person.
I can only hope that all of the wonderful memories you have of Cecil and David remain forever in your hearts and help you to heal during this very very difficult time.
Warmly,
Renee (Averbach) Beitman

I didn't know the brothers personally but my heart goes out to his family and friends. This tragedy is so very sad. I know from reading about them how gentle kind happy they were. My son has special needs fragile x syndrome as both brothers were diagnosed with . I know what big hearts and innocence they have. It breaks my heart that the Rosenthal brothers lives were shortened by an evil person. May the memories stay with good thoughts of the 2 brothers. Rest In Peace together .. forever

The tragic loss of Cecil along with his brother is heartbreaking. I hope you will find comfort in the words of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who promises that soon when God's Kingdom comes the whole earth will rest, free of disturbance. At that time the only cries will be cries of joy. (Isaiah 14:7) Please accept my sincere condolences.

To: Michelle and the Rosenthal family.
At the rising sun and at its going down; We remember them.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter; We remember them.
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring; We remember them.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer; We remember them.
At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of the autumn; We remember them.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends; We remember them.
As long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as We remember them.

When we are weary and in need of strength; We remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart; We remember them.
When we have decisions that are difficult to make; We remember them.
When we have joy we crave to share; We remember them.
When we have achievements that are based on theirs; We remember them.
For as long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as, We remember them.

Joy and Eli,

Our deepest sympathies to all of you at this most difficult time. I wanted to share an excerpt from a Facebook post our son, Jacob, wrote this morning.

To David and Cecil, I never knew you. But I feel as if I had just lost a piece of me that I never think I can get back. That I never got to meet such a special part of my family, but your deaths will not be in vain. To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson, " The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."

While it's probably been 20 years since I've seen him, I knew Cecil and met David once or twice. Cecil was a previous participant in PLEA'S PAL program in Wilkinsburg that has been lead by my mother since around 1993. Many Saturdays during my youth, I had the pleasure of volunteering with the group of special needs adults. Cecil was the kindest, gentlest man you could ever meet, and was always calling my mom Miss Cindy. It's a testimony to his personality that after all this time I can still remember him and his infectious laughter as if it were yesterday. My heart aches for the Rosenthal family. Cecil was a good friend of my brother David when they both worked at ACHIEVA's sheltered workshop in Wilkinsburg. He was a wonderful person, quirky and friendly. I have never been at an event with him but I know Cecil, I have never shared a church service with him but I know cecil, I never saw his energy or passion for humankind but I know Cecil. Why; well we have our own Cecil. His name is Steven he is only 24 but he is traveling the trail I bet Cecil followed that went through wonderful places like duquesne best buddies and stevens church is his anchor also. I bet like Cecil could, Steven can pull a smile out of anyone I bet like Cecil when Steven sees you whether he has known you for a day or his entire life you are the most important person in the world to him for that moment. So thank you for sharing Cecil with the community and as a role model for those like Steven who is climbing through the same footsteps Cecil did and see the connected family of folks like cecil and Steven as Gods angel catchers on earth and once caught we never can go back and need to share the love they model every day. My wife and I are saddened by this terrible event and hope Steven can be as much impact to the community as your son

I was a staff member at Best Buddies Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh for five years and knew Cecil fondly. He truly was the Mayor of BBPA - everyone from every area chapter of Best Buddies knew his name and looked forward to seeing him at events. He would frequently call our office to check in and would always ask about how we were doing, how our families were doing, if we wanted to go to Eat n Park, etc. My heart breaks when I think about these two senseless losses. May Cecil and David's memories be for a blessing.

Dear Rosenthal family, We cannot imagine how terrible this is for your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. My family met Cecil through our brother, David Joe, at Achieva in Wilkinsburg. Cecil was a good friend of our brother, David Joe. We loved when Cecil would walk home with our brother - his protector. He only stayed at the house with my Mom for 15 minutes. Cecil said that he did not want to overstay his welcome.
Sometimes, I would drop Cecil off at the JCC and he was always excited to join his brother, David, at the center. We are so lucky to have known Cecil and he will always be special to us. With sympathy, Peggy McElligott Cantwell & the McElligott Family
