JARDINI
ORLANDO M.
Age 85, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on November 21, 2013. He was the son of the late Paschaol (Patsy) Jardini and Michelina Mancini Jardini, of Carrick; and brother of the late Josephine C. (Frank C.) Hasenkopf. Orlando was born on October 11, 1928, in Pittsburgh, and spent most of his life in Brentwood. He moved to Meadow Lands, PA three years ago. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Linda Price Jardini; three children, David (Dawn Shober) of Meadow Lands, PA, Nancy Jardini (Morris J. Panner) of Chevy Chase, MD, and Michele Jardini (Sean) Gannon of Hermosa Beach, CA. His memory will be cherished by ten grandchildren, Patrick David Jardini of Houston, PA, Jacquelyn Mariana (JJ) Jardini, Catherine Price (Rinnie) Jardini, Grazia Linda (Gracie), of Meadow Lands, PA, Michelina (Mikey) Jardini Panner, David Jardini Panner, Josephine (Joey) Jardini Panner, Martine (Nini) Jardini Panner of Chevy Chase, MD, Orlando Jacob (Jake) Gannon, Eleanor (Elle) Louise Gannon of Hermosa Beach; and one great-grandson, Ethan Patrick Jardini, of Navarre, FL. He is also survived by his brother, John E. (Teresa Gallo) Jardini of Carrick; and deeply loved nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his special friends, the Artmans of Norman, OK, the Kuchta family of Baldwin, PA and the Larragoite family of Annapolis, MD, along with many dear cousins and relations in Brazil. Orlando's life was devoted to his family and to education. After graduating from Brentwood High School in 1946, Orlando entered the family masonry business until serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he became the first member of his extended family to attend college earning a Bachelor of Arts (1956), a Master of Letters (1957) and Ph.D. in Spanish (1967) from the University of Pittsburgh. Orlando began his teaching career at Thomas Jefferson High School in 1956, leaving that school to continue his graduate studies in 1963. He was a Teaching Fellow (1963-64) and Mellon Fellow (1964-65) at the University of Pittsburgh, Instructor and Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University (1965-68), and Associate Professor and Professor at Chatham College (1970-1994). Orlando retired from Chatham College as Professor Emeritus in 1994. Orlando's teaching career also included a long association with the University of Oklahoma including summer institutes beginning in 1960 and programs at the cultural studies center in Colima, Mexico, from 1967 to 1993. Orlando was a lifelong resident of Brentwood, member of the Brentwood School Board (1971-1995), co-founder of the Brentwood High School Hall of Fame, and an officer of the Brentwood High School Alumni Association since its founding. He was an inductee of the Brentwood Hall of Fame. Orlando also served the Mon Valley School for Exceptional Children and the Steel Center Area Vocational Technical School as a board member for 22 years, as well as the Carriage House Children's School, Squirrel Hill, for 18 years. Upon his retirement in 1994, Orlando and his beloved wife Linda enjoyed many years of travel throughout the world. Friends will be received at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Rd., Brentwood, 15227 on Saturday from from 2-6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., friends are asked to gather at the South Hills Country Club for a Memorial Celebration Reception and Dinner. Heartfelt condolences to the Jardini family. As a Chatham student, I met Professor Jardini in the late 60's while cross-registered at Carnegie Tech. His excellent teaching and commitment to higher education inspired me to continue my language and literature studies at the graduate level. I was very sorry to read about his passing.

Thank you Mr Jardini for giving me some of the best memories of my life. I loved Colima and the experiences I had there. Without you those experiences and those memories would never have happened. Thank you.

Our deepest heartfelt condolences to Linda and the Jardini family. What a great man. We as well as many others will truly miss him. As a fellow Board Member, I truly respected Orlando. He taught me much about being an effective School Board member as well as School Board politics. I will always remember him as a truly dedicated Board Member and a sincere person. Family came first but right after that, he dedicated his efforts to the Brentwood Community and in particular, all the students at Brentwood High School. He always strived to do and demand the best for the Brentwood School Community. He took great pleasure in their accomplishments as if they were his own children. I personally will remember him as a truly kind and caring person. I will not forget Orlando taking a personal interest in my daughter and helping her gain admitance into Chatham Graduate School. Their was never a time that he did not ask about her as well as my son. Orlando, you will truly be missed but not forgotten. You have left a legacy for all to remember.

Linda and family
It has been a pleasure to have had Orlando as a friend since our high school years. He touched the lives of many in the Brentwood community and in his many other interests and endeavors. The BHS class of 1946 will miss him and his leadership in the June luncheons and reunions. I also will miss his informative and interesting emails, keeping me up with his many life travels and adventures–always ending his emails with “Keep smiling”.
With caring thoughts—–Joyce Wendell Sternagel—class of 1946

Linda & Family, I am so sorry to hear of Orlando's passing. He was so special to everyone he came in contact with. I remember him well when you both visited at Friendship Village. He not only spent time visiting his mother in law but several other Residents. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

My deepest sympathy to Orlando's family. We were classmates and after graduation sixty some years ago, Orlando held the alumnae together. Those of the '46 class who are left, will miss him incredibly. We all loved him. Virginia Walsh Reper

I always have warm memories of OJ! He was the greatest Spanish professor at Chatham College -- always stopped and brought us soft pretzels from the pretzel shop! May all your memories of him bring you warm thoughts and smiles too! Prayers to all of you.

Dear Mrs. Jardini and Family, please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of Dr. Jardini. I will always very fondly remember "OJ," as we sometimes called him, from my student days at Chatham College in the late 1980s. He was my academic advisor, and a very sound one at that. He edited my tutorial project superbly. But the things I'll remember most were singing "De Colores" at the top of our lungs, "a-e-i-o-u, el burro sabe mas que tu!," and "Que pasa, Calabasa? Nada, nada, Limonada!" I always enjoyed his stories about Colima and his sly sense of humor. He approached every day with gusto. I loved to hear his booming laugh echoing down the hall and see him striding along looking as dashing as Omar Sharif! I'm glad you had so many precious years with him, and I wish you all comfort and joy in your memories of him.
