I didn't grow up in Pittsburgh or anywhere near there but Porky Chedwick was a legend and known all over eastern America. it's sad that we don't see highly identifiable radio personalities like him anymore. And sad too that there aren't many who will give back to the community and make time for people the way he did.

I grew up in Hazelwood PA 1n the 40's and 50's. Listened faithfully to Porky on WHOD (1280 on your dial) from the day I found him on radio until I joined the navy in 1954. Really missed his music. Couldn't wait to get home on "boot" leave where I reconnected for two weeks to get my "fix" before going too far away for too long a time to ever hear him again. Never, ever found anyone, anywhere that was like Porky and his music. Missed him greatly then as I know he is missed greatly now by a great many. Wrote him a letter of support once and was thrilled when I heard Porky say on the air "received a great letter from Ed West, I know him well, thank you Ed" Loved him then, love him still - Miss you much Porky, Ed

Kids growing up in Pittsburgh during the '50's define their youth by the Bossman's enduring influence. He was the essence of Pittsburgh for decades. RIP, Porky.
