It seems like only yesterday you were here with me and we were planning our life together. Now all our plans with have to be lived by me without you. Just know that you will always be in my heart and that with each trip I take you will be right with me in my thoughts and always in my heart. You family has been a great comfort to me and when they are around I can feel you there with us. Your family has become a part of mine and it has been like we are blood relatives. Thank you for bringing them into my life. Give your Mom a kiss for me. I miss you both so much

We will miss Dave but he has gone to a better place. I knew Dave for almost 30 years and he was always considered a good friend. We would loose touch for awhile and then just picked up right where we left off. Knowing someone like Dave makes you feel that your life has truly been blessed. He is out of our sight but never our hearts.

DAVID N. BAUER August 3, 1956 - February 9, 2013 I first met Dave almost 11 years ago while singing karaoke at Monte Cellos. He was one of the first people to welcome me into this kind of community they had there. In this community, Dave was their “Mayor.” When Dave sang Barry White, everyone listened and when the people he cared about sang, he listened. People thought highly of Dave and he thought highly of them. He complimented them and made them feel special. He also made sure others knew how special his friends and family were to him. He spoke of his daughter, Jen, and son-in-law, Eric, with such praise that I loved and knew them before we even met. He spoke highly of his mother, sisters, brother-in-laws, nephew and cousin so that when I met them, we were already family. It wasn't only the things Dave said that were reflections of his character but also the things he did. He loved collecting things. He was a collector of not only hearts, but of belongings as well. He collected sunglasses, hats, watches, coats….World War II books, model and toy cars….Charlie Brown collectibles, Steelers and Panthers paraphernalia, Classic car and Chevy items…and I can go on, but I think you get the idea. He would've collected cars if he had the funds and if he had permission. He loved, Betsy, his Chevy Impala SS that he took from a “barn find” to an incredible piece of machinery. He took great pride in it. He took excellent care of it. He knew what he liked and he also paid attention to what others liked. He always seemed to buy people the perfect gifts and took time to understand what people liked and needed. Whether it was the way he over did it for parties with the delicious food like seafood bisque and dips or the special way he dressed up for Christmas, we knew he wanted everyone to enjoy themselves and made sure to take excellent care of everyone as a gracious host. He loved food and cooking. He had his special places to buy baked goods and had his special dishes at his favorite restaurants. He seemed to have a story of each place that made you want to visit. If you told Dave you liked a food he prepared, he would start a very detailed and engaging explanation about the recipe. Sometimes he would talk about a secret ingredient, which was of course no secret to all of us that it was love. It was also no secret that he loved and was loved. He found a special kind of love with my mom and he made her very happy. He became a father to my sister and me and even my husband. He became a grandfather to my children and for these things I am grateful. He loved golfing. You knew that Dave was honest and determined by the way he golfed. He would try 10 times to get a ball out of a sand pit or off of a rough hill. He would try until someone stepped in and said, “Dave, it's time to move the ball.” He was determined and fought long and hard in his battle with cancer until God finally stepped in said, “Dave, it's time to come home.” He loved Pittsburgh sports. He loved the Steelers and the Panthers. He loved tailgating and being with people. We had the privilege of going to a Pitt game with him. He had a friend of his lend us VIP passes to get on the field which really impressed my kids. They said that Dave really knows people. He knows people to get us on the field at Heinz Field…and he even knows Santa! Well, now he knows God. He's up there in heaven watching over us…and Dave's love, like the Chevy motto, runs deep. He touched our hearts and he touched our souls so deeply that we will never forget him. Dave, we just couldn't get enough of your love…Babe.

Hi Susan and family, "It takes a long time to get used to
the loss of someone we love.
But it's important to remember
that when people die, they leave
Something very special behind-
They leave us memories
of many things they said and did.
And as long as we have those memories,
the people we love will live on
in our hearts and minds."

To Valerie, and the Bauer & Emerson Families,
I wanted to express my deepest condolences to all of you for the loss of Dave. He was such a nice and generous man. He would come to Erie Copper Works in Ohio and bring banana or pumpkin bread from Bob Evans for us and he was always happy. Find comfort in your fond memories of Dave and know that he is in a joyous place and not in pain anymore.

A special poem for a very special man.
A Friend
Friends to so many people
where ever he went.
A passionate man who cares
for those he called friends.
A loving son, brother, father and
companion to those he called
his family.
Seeing his smiling face, hearing his
laughter, will always be in our
minds and heart.
The twinkle of his eyes, a quick wink
and a grin to let you know he's
there for you.
Always willing to go that extra little
bit to help someone in need.
Someone from above has called him
to give a helping hand.
Looking down from above to watch over
his loved ones and friends.
Now he walks, with an smile on his
face, with the Lord above.
Written by a caring friend, Betsy Laird.

This is so said to hear. I have spent so much time with Dave over the years as a proud alumni of the Electric Furnace Steelmaking world, Lectromelt and especially our 30 plus year relationship as friends. I talked to Dave in September when he called to tell me what he was going through. Sadly that was the last time I talked to him.

So many good times we experienced in so many cities during the Electric Furnace Conferences and the Iron and Steel Expositions. I'll never forget the trip he and I made driving from Orlando to Pensacola, Florida to see the U.S. Naval Museum and my wife's Grandfather's airplane the NC-4.
