I first met Herb at the Cutler Elementary School in Somerville, Ma. We both were school crossing guards and proud of our white belts and shiney badges.
In Junior High we played on the same basketball team. He was a star, while I was a bench warmer. But still our friendship grew.
At 16 we both joined the Order of DeMolay, and moved through the ranks together.
For several years, twice a week, we practiced martial arts in a basement next to a coal burning furnace. We trained with a rubber knife, which I can picture vividly today.
In High School we partied together, and even dated the same girl, off and on, for 4 years.
On weekends we cruised the streets of Somerville in my father's 1950 Ford. The car was hot, but we were not.
After High School we went our separate ways: Herb went to college and then the Air Force, I went into the Navy.
25 years later, at our High School Reunion, we took up where we left off.
Sooooo many great memories...
I'll miss you, Herb...and my thoughts and prayers are with you, AnnMarie.
