My deepest sympathy Mary Beth! He was a wonderful person whom I considered a friend! My heart goes out to you & your family!
September 22, 2012
Heartbroken over the loss of a man who one instinctively knew had a big heart, great love for his beer, the city of Pittsburgh and of course his family. May his family be blessed knowing how many people were touched by Tom, and find comfort in his memories.
September 21, 2012
Of course the beer was great, but you and Tom helped make Pittsburgh big-league, Mary Beth, with your blood, sweat, tears, passion, generosity and welcoming smiles. Many happy times there. My sympathies on your loss.

Mary Beth: Belated condolences. I still recall the tour Tom gave of the E&O Brewery before renovations began, probably 1986, and the enthusiasm the project generated for North Siders and beer lovers alike. I spent a lot of time at the brewery, not so much drinking beer, but learning how to make it and writing about the beer for the Post-Gazette. I think Sophie Masloff tapped the first Penn Pilsner at the brewery. I met you as well and fondly remember our discussions as, including one about a certain Brit bartender. Miss you both and offer you my best wishers along with your family.

Mary Beth. I just heard of Tom's passing. I remember so long ago when you two were putting together the brewery...Tom was making the benches and the beer was cold and wonderful. I'm so sorry you lost your love and boyfriend. It's a sad time. But you two have brought so much joy to others.

Mary Beth: Glenn and I send our deepest sympathy to you and your family. I have just learned of your loss from Pittsburgh friends. Please know that you and your family have been and will be in our thoughts and prayers. Mary Jane Carpenter

Tom - You will be sorely missed
September 11, 2012
Dear Mary Beth,
When my sister Nancy shared the news about you losing your precious Tom with me this past weekend, I was shocked and deeply sad for you and your boys. Your Tom always had such a kind and caring way of making me feel warmly welcome - whether it was at one of our annual family reunions or during a visit to your brewery. I especially remember his smiling welcome at a book release party you so graciously hosted for my colleagues from the National Council for Geog Ed.
The legacy Tom left behind as a loving family man, supportive entrepreneur , and skilled craftsman will long be remembered.
Sending love and support concern from your concerned cousin, Susan (Eugene, Oregon)

Dear Mary Beth,
Our deepest condolences to you and your family. We were so sad to hear about Tom. We always had a special place in our hearts when the Penn Pilsner Brewery opened in the eighties with the both of you at the helm. We pray that your happy memories get your through this very difficult time.
